Scam, I was the Victim. (free stuff for the con-artist) : GW Discussion

Here is how it went,

I was in ToA, buying ecto for 6.2k, someone messaged me this:

"yo, the duping thing u showed me worked!" (con)
*short pause*
"nvm, ignore that." (con)

------pause

"wait, tell me more about this "dupe"" (me)

"accept my team, and ill show u if u want." (con)

"but you have to give me 60k after if it works, or 10 ectos" (con)

------ traveled to Thirsty River

------ Entered mission
"stand in this rock, so your legs dont show" (con)
"tell me when you see a bugged ghost." (con)

------ Con ran south south west (along path) to the ghostly hero (wait till he allies he will show as lv 255)

"I see him" (me)

"drop the items you want to dupe, for 3 seconds then pick them up again"(con)

------ when he saw the drop he talked to the ghostly hero
------cinematic began, and I spawned at ghostly hero,

He then ran really fast to the place where I dropped the item (10 ecto).

and Picked them up before i could make it.

It was close, cause as soon as I spawned i knew what was going down.

So i had my running skills, and started chasing, but i did now have my attributes set right for running so i lost the race, and he picked up and left the game with my 10 ectos.

I only droped 10 of the 50 i had because if i disconnected...

Well....its not really going for anything but also Im not sure if that is accepted here...So its not being submited as an exploit, unless you guys want it to be... if its not then it can become a warning for everyone here...

Thanks....

Well the old drop and dupe trick is an old one. So not really worth anything. Its nothing game specific.

The only way to fall for a scam is to be greedy. Full stop.

All the scams target people to get somethng for 'free' or to make you feel like you made a great 'deal'.

Pay what you owe (or think you should owe) and don't try to cheat.

Nuff said.

Greed is definatley a killer. It causes scams and causes people to get scammed.

Sorry but this makes me LOL

why the hell would you test a dupe by dropping 10 ectos...dupe something like a bolt of cloth or a cheap as hell weapon or collector item or something...not something worth a bunch of platinum...

just use common sense....if it sounds too good to be true it probably is...always be skeptical with stuff like this...

Tell them you want to try to dupe something cheap first to test it and I guarantee 90% of the time you'll get an argument about how it HAS to be something worth a lot....or they'll just stop talking to you. That'll tell you right there that they are trying to scam you.

and 99.99999999999999999999% of all strangers who just happen to offer to show you a dupe or exploit are scamming you. If they aren't willing to tell you up front how to do it...or they have to be involved...it's a scam.

Same goes for trading scams...I almost got scammed by someone. I was trying to sell a mini Kunnavang Dragon for 95k...I had someone offer 100k +1 ecto...I figured they just didnt' see the price I was selling it for...so I told them 95k...but they still offered 100k +1 ecto. I should have known it was a scam at that point...but I accepted the offer. First trade I had to cancel because I had to put some money in storage (due to 100k limit). Second time trade got cancelled by them. Third time trade got cancelled again. Fourth time trade was accepted by the person and just before I was about to hit accept I noticed they were offering 100g + 1 ecto. Of course I immediately cancelled and called them a scammer...then reported them. Had I used common sense I wouldn't have come so close to losing my dragon.

And shortly after that I had someone offer to dupe my dragon....that convo didn't last long...

Common Sense is your best defense against scammers...

Ouch. Sure I posted a list of these scams but that doesn't mean I don't feel bad for you

You can report them but if it was your own greed that got you into trouble in the first place, I don't think Anet are too bothered.
