LOTRO worth it to play? : LOTRO - Discussions

So normally I play FFXI, or DID (I'm on attempt number 8 to quit it right now), and I was wondering about this game. I've heard some good things about it, but right now I'm looking for a game with a good PvP system, that won't eat my bank account like WoW and one that has better customer support than FFXI.

Basically, I would appreciate if some of you could comment back on this with YOUR opinion of the game, and whether or not YOU think it's worth it to pay and play over the other MMORPGs out there.

I've tried pretty much every single one I can name, and none have yet to compare with FFXI all around, and with WoW's PvP system.

Why am I trying to quit FFXI, you ask? Well, to answer your question: Because it takes WAY TOO MUCH time out of my life, which I no longer have the ability to waste. It was fun leading endgame for a while, and it was definitely the best game I've played all around, but right now I'm currently looking for a game that can beat it (Which is definitely hard to do) AND a game that will NOT kill my social life, which I finally began to put back together.

So please post what you think about the game here, because I've heard a LOT of mixed reviews on this game, and I'm hoping it's going to be a decent game, considering I always liked J.R.R Tolkein's books when I was younger and actually read something that wasn't for school...

If you liked the books you might like the game

is there still a 2 week trial at lotro.com? give it a shot

If your main focus is pvp or monster play you might be dissapointed, read the main forums before you pay anything would be my tip

I played it from beta to roughly 2 months in released. I was dissapointed because the total lack of good pvp, But the RPG side of it is really nice. I heard someplace they was going to do a addon that made good version good pvp system at some point.

Its one of them games. You have to play once to see if you like it. Also the mage classes suck.

Thanks for the comments, and that does answer my questions. I'm downloading the trial right now, so I guess I'll see a bit for myself. As for the game itself, the graphics look pretty sweet, and the storyline is kinda cool, but I'm hoping there's at least some type of PvP, cuz that is the ONLY thing FFXI lacks.

i believe they still have the 14 day trial and ya there's some pvp but you have to be lvl 50ish...some go before 50...to play as a freep
otherwise you can start out as a creep and not have to be any lvl

I think the game is very fun, but then again I am only mildly into pvp. I play the game for other reasons, believe it or not. If you want a pvp experience, maybe aoc is for you? I have heard it's pretty brutal.
