Run more than two DAOC's on one PC : DAOC Submissions

Dark Age of Camelot prevents you from running more than two copies on a computer. If you try to launch a third, you get an error message.

Here's how to smash through that restriction. You can run three, four, five or even more copies -- you're limited only by the amount of RAM and other resources in your machine.

The interesting thing about this hack is that it doesn't hack DAOC. It doesn't do anything to DAOC's files or its address space or its data. It just deletes two "mutexes" from the operating system's global name space. The deletion is temporary -- the objects come back each time DAOC starts running.

Here's how to do it:

1. Download the current version of HotkeyNet from this address:

http://www.hotkeynet.com/p/download.html

2. Follow the instructions on the following page to install HotkeyNet:

http://www.hotkeynet.com/p/doc.html

3. Make a text file with notepad that includes the following hotkey definition:

Code: Select all

Hotkey Shift F1
KillMutex \BaseNamedObjects\DAoCi1
KillMutex \BaseNamedObjects\DAoCi2
(Each of the above lines should be enclosed in < > symbols, but if I put them in, the forum software deletes part of the lines, so I'll leave them out. But you have to be sure to use them in your file.)

4. Press the "Load hotkey file" button on HotkeyNet's main screen to load the file you just made.

5. Each time you launch DAOC, just before you do it, press Shift F1 to trigger your hotkey and destroy the mutexes. (You can use some other key combination if you prefer.)

That's the whole thing! Enjoy.

I looked for a program that can do this for several years. This is the only one I've found. And this is a brand new feature in that program. So I would think this is a pretty interesting tip to people who still play DAOC.

Hotkeynet is a pretty good software. I wouldn't even have a shadow of doubt that this works.

I used hotkeynet for multiboxing to control multiple instances of DAoC across my network.

I now use Octopus... It's free and very smooth. Keys are passed every time.
