Day Trading the EQ2 Markets.... Just like trading stocks! Subject description: Make tons of plat fast! Get more than a 100% return on your coin! |
|
I recently took a break from EQ2 because I became an equity trader, and have been day trading full time now for the past 6 months. Anyway, I took what I learned through Equity Trading, applied it to the Everquest 2 Broker and have been doing well on increasing my plat gains.
Notes (letters after numbers stand for copper, gold, and platinum. So 1c = 1copper ; 1g = 1 gold ; 1p = 1 platinum)
Here is the basic idea of how I took under 10g and turned it into over 1p 50g for a return of over 1500%!!!:
-I haven't played in a while, but decided to test this out with the coin I had left on my character. I started out by harvesting in various zones so that I could refresh myself on item names. This way I could look them up on the broker and see how they were selling. The goal is to find an item that is in high demand, has a large surplus of supply (i.e. more sellers than buyers), and is cheap! Basically, you are looking for something that is liquid so that you can sell it fairly quickly. You want to sell things fast and not hold on to them for long periods of time.
-After you find an item that has a very large supply on the broker that is very cheap, look to see where there is a gap in selling prices. The idea is that you want to find something that has a gap in price so you can profit off this. So, if an item has lots of sellers from 1c to 2s, and then gaps up to say 10 silver, you are in good shape. If the item has many sellers from 1c up to 2s and then lots of sellers at say 2s 99c, you do not want to invest in this item because prices are too competitive and you will not make as much profit. The gap is key in this strategy! So when you find that item that is cheap and has a gap up as outlined above, buy absolutely everyone of these items up to the gap!
-Now you have a very large stockpile of one type of harvestable item that you bought cheaply. The idea is to put these items back on the broker at a higher price so that you make a profit. Here is where this gap in price comes into play. Ideally, you have chosen an item that has a gap!
-You want to price your items on the broker so that you are the lowest priced seller. Now you will slightly undercut the current lowest seller who should be selling the same item at a significantly higher price than what you bought the items at. So, if your average price for buying an item is 1s and the next seller is selling their item at 10s, you can set your price to 9s. So, you are making a 900% return for each item you sell! The gap is important because you want to make sure that you are profitable until you sell off your inventory. Initially you will sell the items at 9s until more competition enters the market. As more players start to undercut your prices, you can buy them and add to your stockpile, or you can slightly undercut them so that you are once again the lowest priced seller in the market. The idea is that you want to make sure that you are selling your entire inventory off for a profit. So if you are slightly undercut by say 1s, don't buy up your competition because you will just drive up your average buying price per item. Instead, undercut them. But, if you are undercut by say 8s and they are selling for 1s, buy them up!
-Keep buying up competitors and/or undercutting them until you sell off your inventory of items you bought and you should be profitable.
Here is an example of how I did this with one item in particular (note: this can be done with any item you find on the broker... just make sure it is a liquid asset that will sell of quickly!!!)
1)I found that there was an excess supply of deklium clusters on the broker being sold for under 1s (4,000 or so were being sold for 2 copper, and the rest were being sold for under a silver. Approximately 100 were sold for about 1-2 silver total.) Then I also noticed that once they reached a price of 1s 20c, there was a gap up to 5s. This gap is what you want to find. That way you can increase your selling price for a nice profit but still undercut everyone. Also, the gap allows you some room so that when new sellers come into the market, you can readjust your prices and undercut them and still make a nice profit!
2)I purchased every deklium cluster on the market that was under 5s. Now remember that there was a 3s 80c gap up. The total cost for the 5000 deklium clusters was 9 gold 55 silver. That comes out to an average price of 19.1c paid per deklium cluster.
3)I then put all of the deklium clusters back on the broker. There were some sellers left but they were selling for 5 silver or more. So, I filled this gap by putting my clusters up for a price of 3s 90c so that I would be the lowest price on the broker. I chose this price due to the 20-40% broker commission fees buyers pay which pushes my price up slightly. In the end, I would collect 3 silver 90 copper per deklium cluster sold. This is a 2,041.88% profit on each deklium cluster sold! That is an amazing return on your investment!
4)Now in order to break even on this investment; I need to sell 245 deklium clusters to make 9g 55s back. This occurred fairly quickly, and I was making profits very fast!
5) I managed to sell approximately 2,400 clusters for 3 silver 90 copper and the remaining 2,600 for an average price of 2s 89c. Now lets do the math:
(2,400 clusters) x (3s 90c) = 93g 60s
and
(2,600 clusters) x (2s 89c) = 75g 14s
Total Profits: 1p 68g 74s
Original investment = 0p 9g 55s
Gross Profits = 1p 68g 74s
Net Profits = 1p 59g 19s
ROI (return on investment) = 1,666.91%
So, in the end, I was able to turn 9g 55s into 1p 68g 74s in one session of playing! Therefore, it is possible to play the market in EQ2 like the stock market! With a little bit of ingenuity, there are always ways to make a buck! This works for any item in EQ2, but the idea is to find items that are liquid so they sell quickly! I've done this with harvestables, transmutables, spell scrolls, etc. The possibilities are endless! So far, I have been able to make over 10 plat in 2 sessions of playing by doing this with various items being sold on the broker!
Sure there are other ways to make coin in game, but that is not what I am focusing on here. This is a guide on how to play the EQ2 Markets to make coin! I hope you enjoyed this guide! Good luck to anyone and everyone who uses this to help them make coin!

I'm glad you got a kick out of it!
I showed some friends my post and they thought it was hilarious too!
But the important thing is that the concept works! I now have 18 plat of profits through manipulating the market LOL

Although it obviously works, it could have simply said 'buy low, sell high'.
An adventuring version would be 'kill the mob before it kills you'.

Im up over 45 plat now since I started this hahaha!
Patience is key!
The "buy low sell high analogy" seems simple but the difference is I laid out the strategy on how to manage the gaps. Anyway, I'm glad it's stimulating thought / people are checking it out. Again, there are many other ways to make coin in game but this one is just for how to play the broker like equity markets!
