you initially asked what is the point of fishing and to answer that

I would say: fishing was a staple of other games like EQ, in EQ fishing was a good way to earn money for a low level

In lotro a lot of players asked for it, because they were used to it from other games, it is relaxing, a way to meet people and involves no fighting (but the fish always dies) and I think it was the resistance of turbine to add it, that kept the push for fishing going...from early beta to finally getting it was almost 18 months of asking for it, having it come up in EVERY dev chat etc

plus there was a stretch between expansion patches, and giving us fishing (a HUGE time sink) helped shut the whinning players up

if you are a gm/sm cook and a friend (or kindred) in forochel and have a really high fishing skill (close to 150 or above) you can get a lot of fish for the only food that increased fate (or will?) thats about the only real value of fishing other than a title, and trophies for the wall...

thats my cynical opinion anyway:)

what he said but i just altogether stopped fishing because it was aminly a waste of time for me because i am a high fisher from when i was rank 10 and still excited about it (say 200 skill points!!!) and i still come up with a minow or a goldfish in like angamar or even in the entmoors!!! i just don't do it i sold all my fishing stuff and that was the end of it :)
