We all know that blasting and hacking at Grauls on Dantooine is a good way to gain experience for those who don't have expansion packs (like myself), and even some that do. But it's never really been safe for someone at a low level to try and kill one on his or her own. Well, there's actually a way around that. I'm going to tell you the way to kill almost any wandering NPC you want!
By wandering NPC, I mean an NPC that isn't in a bunker, cave, or city. These NPCs can be found on every planet, but for it to work perfectly you need to be on a planet where you can add houses. Why's that? Well this exploit's lifeblood is houses. If you want to have MAXIMUM use of this exploit, you should aquire a small (or any size really, but small works best due to its being easy to place) house or a trader tent that is usable on the planet on which you want to grind.
Now i suggest buying a decent long-range rifle to maximize the effectiveness of this (yes Mr. Jedi, this goes for you too) exploit. After you've got all the necessary materials, simply go out to a place you can drop your house as needed (outside of no-drop zones. You can usually tell where they start and finish by the citylike ring around them). Then, search around for a good target. I suggest a Graul, Dantari, or anything high in level. When you see a good group of them, drop your house within your ranged weapon's range and make sure that the door is facing the things you want to kill without any walls inbetween them and your door (a large staircase would do this). That's another reason that i suggest a Trader's tent.
Now, step inside the house. I'll explain why. You know how many houses can be used as a shelter from attacking NPCs, right? They simply walk back to where they came from and combat ends. There's one flaw in the SOE's thinking though. Notice, if you damaged it, that the HP doesn't all restore at once. It takes time. THIS is what you're trying to take advantage of. Take your weapon and point it at the target when it hasn't moved from its original spot and open fire. DON'T STOP FIRING UNLESS YOU CAN'T HELP IT! you should notice that the target enguages you, then disenguages you, enguages, disenguages, etc. Thats because you're inside the building. You're in a no-attack zone so the target, being an npc, isn't able to chase you and kill you (or blast you for that matter). The NPC's hp will take damage every shot (duh) but will recover a little HP after every shot. However, every hit deals more damage than the target can revive. Your target will die, being unable to attack you and unable to ingore you, since the place where it would retreat to (and ignore you while its retreating) is the same spot it's being pummeled in. When that target is dead, move onto the next one, and the next one, and the next until that cluster is done. Then just redeed your building and look for another group of targets and take them out in the same way.
*Note* depending on the circumstances you may or may not be able to use your abilities to quicken the process
