Step 1: Item Assembly
After you have gathered all the resources you need to make an item, you start you crafting tool, by clicking on it in your Inventory (Ctrl+I) and select Start Crafting, I think. The first step will allow you to put resources into little slots.
To move them into the slots, you drag and drop them, this can e really tedious when it gets laggy.
Double-click on the resource, it will fill in the first slot requiring it. This method is speedy.
When you click on a resource, and look at the slots, a number of them should turn green, this means that this resource is the right type and will be able to go into that slot.
Experiment with different types of resources to see what it does to the item that you are crafting, maybe it will make it good or not so good, I encourage you to try different resources in the slots to see what it does to the item..
Step 2: Assembling
You will get a varity of Success, Great success, moderate success, critical failure, they all depend on how high you have leanred in your skill. If you get a critical failure, you will be sent back to the Item Assembly window.
If your item isn't a critical failure, you will proceed to the next screen, this is the screen where you can view the experimentation percentage of your item..
Step 3:Experimentation Screen
This screen shows you two things:
Experimentation Durability and Experimentation Value.
Although I don't have a good idea what these mean, I will try my best to expalin them.
Experimentation Value:This might mean how much stats it can have, for example if you didn't experiment with an item, it would have more stats, if you did it would have less stats.
Experimentation Durability:How durable the item is, how fast it will decay and things like that..
Step 4:Name your item screen (I just made that up )
Well, you guessed it, this is the screen where you can name your item and see what it looks like.
NOTE:Sometimes other players might not buy an item that you make if the name is too long or it isn't original, don't know why, but some don't..
Step 5:GCT processes the schematic
This loading bar tells you how long it will take the GCT to process the schematic.
Step 6:Output Hopper
This is the final step in which the item is in the Output Hopper and after that is completed, it goes into your inventory (Ctrl+I)..
Neat little tips!
When you want to make a lot of items, gather a lot of resources first.
If you look in your inventory (Ctrl+I), and look just above your GCT, you will see a number, like 16 and will go down, this is how long it will take the GCT to make the item, and you can't make another item while this little number is above 0, once it dissapears, you can make a another item.
When sampling for a lot of resources at one place, or just sampling, you should set sampling to a F# key and look at the Skills Window (Ctrl+S) or any other window to pass the time.
You can make multiple GCTs, this will allow you to make other items while making another item. You can make other surveying tools, and you will get General Crafting Experience (GCXP) from surveying.
To increase your range of how far you survey, you must go up the Surveying branch in the Starting Profession, Artisan.
You can sample in a city if that is where a resource is located.
