Here is my guide to Creature Handling I wrote sometime when I played SWG. Figure I would post it to contribute to the site,

A Guide to Creature Handling
-Kaeus Darkstride, Ahazi Server

Required Skills
---------------
To get Novice Creature Handler, you first must get Hunting IV and Exploration IV.This takes Scouting experience and what I recommend is going to a planet with lots of low mobs and run around and kill everything you can, and harvest it. I did the same for Novice Creature Handler as it requires Scouting experience.

CH Trainer Locations
--------------------
Rori- in Restuss
Tatooine- Mos Espa, near the "entrance" to the city
Talus- Nashal, behind the spaceport
Corellia- Daoba Gurfel, south of the bank
Coronet, north of the bank
Naboo- Kaadara, next to a guild hall

Taming
----------
This is how you will gain most of you pets, unless of course you buy them, and get you're first ammount of CH exp. At first you will want to find a pet that is low and is not a killer. You will also want to look for a Ferocity level of 0 so it will not attack you if you fail to tame it. Also make sure it has (baby) next to the name as that is all you can tame.

-First, I would suggest trying to maskscent when you's standing in taming range of the creature.
-Second, unwield you weapon so you dont kill it if it attacks you
-Next put on autofollow in case it moves.
-Finally tame and wait.

You will say 3 things trying to convice the pet. As far as I have seen what the computer makes you say has no effect on the sucess of the tame so don't worry if you don't do the same thing every time.

When you get higher you will get to pets that may attack but you want to tame it because it is a good pet. If the creature has Killer:0, when you examine, if you want to keep, you can let it incapitate you and try again after you get back up. Either that or you can run outta aggro range and let it forget about you. The last option is to kill it and hope another one comes out of the lair.

Training
----------
After you tame a pet. You will get the option to train it. This will give it commands that you know how to teach as you advance through Creature Handler. So to tame you...

1. Select Train from the pets radial menu
2. Select the action you want to train
3. A "?" will appear prompting you for the command for that action.
4.
-A larger "?" will appear and you will need to retrain that command
-You will gain CH exp and will see "You have taught your pet a new command," if it has learned the command successfully

Once you've taught it, you can now say that command to execute that action.
Also, once taught an action, you can retrain it without failing, but, you do not gain any more experience for that action.

Naming you pet
--------------
To name you're pet you must have 4 commands at least so you will need either
-Creature Management 1
-Creature Training 1
-Creature Empathy 1
to name it.

What you do is put the name before the command for 4 commands, and on the 4th, you pet will have (Name) over its head, and it is now renamed. After it is named, you can change kill for example from "Name" kill, to just kill and its name will stay the same.

Commands
--------
Commands
When you click on your pet, you have access to a radial menu with the following options:
Examine - Brings up the status of your pet.
Store - Removes your pet from play.
Feed - Gives your pet food from your inventory.
Train - Tells your pet to listen for a command so you can train them or retrain them.

The following are the commands you can eventually train your pet, as you advance up the various arms of the Creature Handler tree:

Attack - tells your pet to attack your current target.
Guard - tells your pet to guard your current target, having them attack anyone that attacks that target.
Stay - tells the pet to remain in place.
Follow other - tells your pet to follow your current target.
Follow me - tells your pet to follow you.
Group - invites your pet into your current group, allowing you to see his HAM and status.
Get patrol point - adds a patrol point for your pet at its current location.
Clear patrol point - clears all patrol points for your pet.
Patrol - tells your pet to immediately begin walking the patrol points set above.
Wedge formation - tells your pet to get into a wedge formation with your other pets.
Column formation - tells your pet to get into a column formation with your other pets.
Befriend - tells your pet to accept orders from your current target.
Transfer - transfers ownership of your pet to your current target.
Release - lets your pet go back to the wild, making them untamed.
Trick1 - tells your pet to do the first trick it knows.
Trick2 - tells your pet to do the second trick it knows.

CH Exp
------
To gain CH exp, you can either tame creatures, and train them all you know, then destroy them and go tame more. Or you can kill with you'r pet.
The way CH exp works while killing is the weaker the pet the more exp, so if you train a low pet, and have it attack, you will get more experience for killing. The best way to get CH exp in combat, is to train a small mob (My preferance is a Cu-Pa because of the ranged spit), join a group, and have it hit evething the group kills 1 time with its attack then make it come back by following.

Food and Playing
----------------
Your pet will tell you theyre hungry or want to play.

Hungry is simple, they eat the same things you do. Have food in your inventory, open the radial menu on your pet, and select Feed. Feeding your pet helps them grown as well as regenerate damage.

Playing with your pet means having them do their tricks. What it does is relieve what amounts to battle fatigue your pet has, in addition to helping them grow. Combat also helps them grow. While pets grow in storage, they grow faster if they are out and seeing some activity, like playing, fighting, and eating. Pets that sit only in storage grow and heal at a slower rate.

Pets heal at the same rate as players and can be healed using stimpacks and other medical supplies. Some Creature Handlers advance in the medic tree to allow them to heal their own pets, but that is up to you.

Advancement
-----------
There are four skills to Master Creature Handler: Taming, Training, Empathy, and Management.

Advancing in Taming gives you bonuses to taming, making it easier to tame less aggressive pets, and possible to tame the more vicious or difficult ones out there.

Training gives you more commands to use as well as increases your chance in successfully training the commands you do know.

Empathy helps you get in touch with your pet and play with them. It gives you the tricks.

Management gives you the formations and helps you have more pets, as well as more out at once.

I recommend getting Empathy 1 for the simple reason of decreasing downtime by being able to play with your pets, unless you choose a non-combat route of getting CH exp.

I hope this guide helps you with the Creature Handler profession. Be sure to send me a tell ingame on the Ahazi server if ya wanna talk about anything. Im on the Ahazi server and are usually around Corellia, Coronet, but i travel to many places.
