Here is the scam part of it:
You have a rare 10k stack of resources (lets say avian meat)---
There is a rich doc advertising on the forums paying 150cpu---
You put the 10k stack on a your vendor and tell her about it---
The vendor displays it as 10k stack but it is really a smaller stack---
The buyer has no way of knowing the real stack size due to this exploit---
Buyer's email does not say the stack size, maybe she made a mistake
Ok, here is how it works.
1 - Put your resource stack in your inventory
2 - Open the "Split" dialog and select the ammount to split (but do not split it yet)
3 - Open the vendor/bazaar screen and select the stack to be sold
----here is where you need to be fast--------
4 - Click the "Sell" button
5 - Press the Escape key as fast as you can
6 - Now press the split button as fast as you can
If you were fast enough, the original stack size will be displayed on the vendor but the real stack size will be the split ammount.
Example -
I have a 10k stack of good avian
There is a doc offering 150cpu for any good avian
I tell this doc I think I have some on my vendor but I am not sure how much is left
I use the above method and select 9000 as the split size.
My vendor shows it as a 10k stack but it is really a 1k stack.
The doc comes to my vendor and sees 10k avian for 1,500,000
He buys it from me
---I delete my email as soon as I can since vendor email often has stack size in it and I don't want a CSR to read it.
He looks in his inv and notices it is only 1k
He is pissed at himself for mistaking such a mistake
He checks his email and it does not say what the stack size was
He is sure it said 10k so he makes a ticket to a csr
CSR tells him he must have made a mistake and there is nothing they can do
He chalks it up to experience and moves on
I just sold avian for 1500cpu and still have 9k left
Notes -
I have noticed that when I buy a resource, my email does not say how big the stack was
When I sell resources my email says how big the stack was
I don't know if the CSR's have more detailed info about the transaction
I have left stacks on my vendor for a couple days and they never correct themselves.
Even a server reset does not requerry the items to be sold
I have two accounts so I know this is a server side exploit
This works on the bazaar as well but there is a 6k credit cap...
This *might* work by offering items to a vendor but I have not tried it yet.
I have only tested this with creature resources but it should work withh all.
This may also work with crates
Chances are, you could do this at least once and get away with it but be carefull and be sure you are only ripping off that !@#$%^&* that everybody hates.
