The subject of "Luck's" effect on looting has been discussed to death on official forums, but noones the wiser it whould seem.
And someones mention of Traders finding more treasure maps then other proffesions, made me think:
*What proffesion walks around wearing +35 Luck boost SEA's all the time*
So i spent this past weekend testing it out on 5 diffrent toons, in both space and on the ground..
Basically I test played with each toon, A Domestic Crafter lvl 90, an Entertainer lvl 90, A jedi lvl 90, a Commando lvl 85 and a Smuggler lvl 80.
First playing for about 2 hours without any serious buffs, then for another 2 hours with basic buffs, and then 2 more hours with Luck buffs reaching over 600 total Luck..
I repeated this both in the dead of night when noone was around, as well as during the day in crowded areas, as well as doing the same in space..
No matter how i spinn this, its no doubt in my mind that Luck, buffed to over 600 plays a MAJOR part in your loot...
When i did the 2 unbuffed hours, loot was mostly the standard junk with maybe one or two collection pices..
The 2 slightly buffed hours (around 3-400 Luck), i got less of the standard junk, some multistat items, couple of collection pices, no holo's, but i think that if i keept it up i might probably get one sooner or later...
The final 2 hours i spent in my severly buffed state, i got dropps equaling Jedi Holocron 4/5, Sith Holocron 3/5, 4/5, 5/5, atleast 5-10 "common" collection pices, multistated loot with one or more stat between 21 and 25.
Basically i had a bonanza, but i wasent satisfied..
So i ran it over 3-4 more times from the top, and result is consistant, and it dont matter what toon im using, or if im on the ground or in space, crowded area, or solo..
Luck stats of 600 or more really DO make a diffrence!
I dident bother posting this over on the official forums, cause they whould just flame it without seeing the potential in it!
I wish you all the best of "Luck" (pun intended)
