I tried this on 04 FEB 07 in the cantina basement in Anchorhead on Bria. Joined the Rebellion, said I wanted to quit, waited before confirming so I could pull up the script for Special Forces, confirmed my resignation (typed YES), waited 5 minutes for my resignation to go through, continued my confirmation that I wanted to join Special Forces, waited 30 seconds for that to go through, and was told that I had to be a member of a faction before I could be Special Forces. Ugh.
So it looks like they killed this.
(Just to be sure, I tried it again without waiting the 5 minutes for the resignation to go through and all that happened then was that my SF request overrode my resignation request.)
