Want to show off your weapon with 500 durability?
Well just take the nice weapon you have (non enhanced) and boost it upp with powder of fortification until it hits the max (255/255) then get some DC ingots and smith with 130+ blacksmith, using ASH ofc so you wont fail then enhance it, poof you got 450+ durability . Works with shields!
I got more in my pocket!

First off, whats is ASH (is it an acronym for something?), never heard of it in my 9 years in UO, as far as I know there is no way to improve your chance at success for enhancing beyond having the highest available blacksmith skill, and having smith above 120 does nothing for chance at success as the max skill is 120, you may see it displayed as higher but it's just a disply thing, not an increase in the hard cap.
If your talking about enhancing with a specific material to boost the durability stats, I have yet to see anything above the hard cap of 255...

ASH is Ancient Smith's Hammer, and it does increases your chance of success with enhancing... If you've been playing nine years, and don't know this, it's probably just that you don't move in Trammie Smith BOD circles like me!
Here's the Stratics Enhancing calc with the stats if you're interested. If you enter in 255 durability, it will even show you that the resulting piece will be more than 255 if done this way, and it also shows the increased success with an ASH.
Anyway this does work, and have a few items over 255 durability done this way. It's not really needed, and most people know about it, but I will yay this as it could be handy for others. Little Yay from me.

Sorry, but ancient hammers simply up the users Smith skill, this has been discussed to death on many forums and it is widely understood on OSI shards that skill above 120 is a display only attribute, and as such it does not increase the chances of enhancing...
I use an ancient hammer +60 at 120 real SMith skill and have seen no noticeable increase in the success rate of the enhance attempt.

I have to confess I don't have a 120 Smith and haven't had the opportunity to test it myself, so am only going by what the ASH is intended to do and by Stratics and Tower of Roses calcs. The fact that it doesn't work in practice I guess is hardly surprising, given how broken so many aspects of UO are. *sighs*

sorry strewth but you are talking from the inside of your bumhole. you actually havent read anything about this because all the forums say the same thing.
my smith with 110 blacksmith plus my +60 ash NEVER fails to enhance. also if you have never heard of an ash then i suggest you dont tell us about what does and doesnt work in uo
pretty useless trick BUT it works
so i give it a yay!
