The Sigil developers responsible for the Diplomacy sphere have created a fun and addicting experience, and almost everyone has positive things to say about it. If you haven't tried it, you really should.
There have been concerns, however, about the "grind" that Diplomacy becomes when the quests run out. Most people discover that the way to raise Diplomacy skill, gain faction, and get the best gear is simply to stand in front of a group of NPCs with one deck loaded and do the exact same parlays over and over. Obviously, this becomes a tad mind-numbing...But Sigil has not been standing idly by after creating this awesome system.
I find myself almost every night going back and forth between a few NPCs and hoping for one after another beautiful little skillup message. The sphere is extraordinarily addicting and fun, despite the "sameness" of each individual encounter.
Aruspex posted last night on Vanguard Tact to let the community know that we will soon see a large update and revamp to the Diplomacy system. You can read his post here. What does it mean? It means that a lot of that "sameness" I just talked about is going to go right out the window!
With a greater number of cards to choose from (for both the player and the NPC), and with improved NPC AI, each parlay may very well become more of a challenge and require careful planning and thought. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to find time to eat if this improvement is half of what I think it could be.
I'm very excited to hear what else Sigil has in store...I certainly hope the powers that be have finally recognized how big a part of Vanguard's success diplomacy is and can be, and are going to throw some additional muscle behind the sphere. The developers responsible for everything we've seen so far in the current Diplomacy system are working their asses off and doing great things... if you like it, make sure you let them know it.
