You can buy items from the other city through the fence, but he charges 40% markup.
An easy way to avoid this is is to sell your items for 1 copper and then be VERY quick to buy in the other city. I have successfully transfered several hundred items between cities this way without loss.
Certain Items have the same buy and sell price if you wish to transfer funds between Cities (merchant sold Artisan Books were one item, before the sell back nerf)
If your are looking to skill up, the limiting factor (after time) is the size of your market. Two Merchants will let you raise artisan level faster then 1.

Find the black market broker in your city (his name begins with fence), then have your friend put an item up for sale in the opposing city for 1cp. Now use the black market vendor to find the item and buy it for 1-2cp. You can do that to transfer items clear across the server without the 20-30min walk.

Or have your alt buy it in one city, relist it for 1cp and buy it in the other city. Only pay 20% markup this way.

There is cool item in Freeport, but you are in qeynos.
Use ALT charater in freeport to buy it, then relist it for 1cp and purchase it with your other alt.
Wait, you'd need 2 accounts for this to work, but still.

Because you can't share items across citys from your bank, thats what the black market is for.

Kind of a misleading title. The idea isn't to avoid the 40% markup on the fence but to transfer items to characters of opposing alignment. What fool would have ever decided to transfer this way by putting a high price on the item? Once you realize the fence can be used to transfer the low price kind of suggests itself.

1: You can do it with one acct, if you sell from the vault.
2: You can also use this to move coin (albeit with a steep tax): put a junk item up for a high price, and buy it on the oppsoing side. Or, more effciently, buy somthing with a fairly even buy/sell price (ie t5 fuels/suspensions from wholesaler), list it for 1c (nobody will buy it cause who'd look on the broker for vendor items?) grab it with the other toon and sell back to the merchant.

Be careful using this technique, there are now macros out there that buy things off of vender if below a certain price. If you happen to post a item that someone is macroing you could lose that item.
