there are none supported on this site and never will be, too much legal red tape. click here if you want your money back.
Now where does it say we support private servers? im guessing your looking at the thing on tault.com so this link. If you read it carefully nowhere in it does it say we support or have private servers for people to use or create their own. this is what it says
(!empty($user->lang['QUOTE'])) ? $user->lang['QUOTE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'QUOTE'))): EQ2 Private Servers EverQuest 2 Private Servers EQ2 Private Server
EQ2 Private servers allow players to join servers that are basically free. Players tend to join EverQuest 2 Private servers for 3 main reasons of thier gaming enjoyment.
Reason 1 is a player wants to skip the fees. With average online servers players are foced to pay around 10-15 dollars a month to play on a real server. When people create private servers it is 100% free to the community. As well players can then keep a stored character forever without being forced to actually pay for it.
Reason 2 is players can test out new things. For example lets say you want to see what 2 different weapons can do. Well if you played the official servers you might only have enough to purchase one of these weapons and have to wait awhile for the next one. With a private server you can instantly have both weapons and see which one better fits you.
Reason 3 is players can test out cheats / bots / hacks on private servers. While maybe on the official servers trying to figure out a new exploit would get your accoun banned. However if you are on a private server most of the time they have little or no rules. This allows you to easily test out new things that you can later use in the official servers.
Keep in mind private servers are highly illegal and owning one / creating one could get you in serious financial civil suites or maybe even criminal cases against you.

while you may not be changing any information on thier servers. . .you are using thier code that they own to replicate the game and environment that they own the rights to. So I would say that yes, it is definately not legal.

Read the case on !@#$%^&* and blizzard. Also eq1 versus another private community. They are able to win because it is considered reverse engineering of source code.

Yes please do read the DMCA Laws and you will find that it clearly states that the DMCA laws do not apply to Reverse Engineering as it is pointed out as being an exception , exempted from DMCA law. Private Server have been running for lots of games and I have yet to hear where a company (no matter how big) has won in a lawsuit against Private Communities anywhere in the world.
In short & sweet Private Servers are by no means illegal as long as the programmer reverse engineered it and did not just rip the code and use it.

In the land of taultunleashed i am god haha. Just playing.
All private servers people sell items for cash. The problem is companies just arent going after them enough. It will happen eventually. Also keep in mind if blizzard or sony had a good reasoning to legally go after us with lawyers they would, and the legal costs to take it to court easily break 100k its not fun.

Admin, notice the section that says "successfully closed down a computer game operation alleged to be reaping profits by providing a fraudulent service to its players" refers to PAYING for services. There is noting illegal about PURCHASING the game client and running it against your own database (which is all a private server is for the most part). What would be illegal is charging people to play on it if you are using content they created.
There have been plenty of attempts to close down private server projects and I have yet to see any succeed. Do not include those charging money with those that do it for fun. There is a huge difference legally.

Yea most of them make money but being free but if you donate you get perks in the game. Thats the legal loophole they are going by. Its just a matter of time till that is taken care of.

Honestly. Donating is by will, they're not forcing you to pay. Donating is an act that is done in the free will of the donator.. Again, nothing illegal. If they charged you to play, like the other guy said, then it would be illegal. There's nothing they can do about private servers that allow donating. If they could, I would believe that all of the WoW private servers would be down. Considering there's 1000's of them.

Sorry to necro this thread but it came up top on google so i thought I should clarify this...
A private server can be legal if its all original code. Go lookup "clean room reverse engineering".
Using the client however might not be

True but even then. If a company like blizzard decides to sue you. You are going to need ALOT of money to fight a court battle. Look around 70k at least. Then you have to worry about loosing the case and paying their fees as well. All in all it equates to 100k plus real fast. Legal or not how the USA legal system works is the person with the most money can usually kill anyone.
