I thought i could help curb that obsession some of you have been having with the goblin gamblers (myself included)
heres how you calculate the odds, theres 6 digits chosen from a pool of 36 non repeating numbers which can come in any of the 6 positions. so each number has 1 less number in the pot until the last one chooses from the remaining 31 unchosen numbers
the math looks like this:
1 chance in (36 x 35 x 34 x 33 x 32 x 31) / (6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2)
or 36 factorial / 30 factorial / 6 factorial
36!/30!/6! = 1 chance in 1,947,792
1 in 1.9 million !!
now that means theoritically 10silver x 1.9million plays means 1,948 plat will be sunk into this, theoritically, before there is a winner.
since each 10s play only adds 3s 70c to the jackpot, that means the theoretical jackpot is 721 plat and yet 1,227 plat compleatly dissapear from the economy. and thats IF anyone ever even wins!
this calculation does not account for winnings of 2, 3, 4, and 5 matched numbers subtracting from the total jackpot. but just real quick let me show you the odds you will win 25gold back (5matched) before you spend 25gold on tickets.
36! / 31! / 5! = 376,992
376,992 * 10s / 100s in gold = 37,699 gold spent before winning 25gold back
25gold spent / 37,699 theoretical spent before winning 25 back
= 0.0663% chance
= 1 chance in 1507 times you spend 25 gold, you will win 25gold back
thought i could shed some light on this subject
