Just my 2 cents:

I've restarted the game 3 times now since I been banned twice. During my banned times, I've tried other games like WoW.... but in all honesty, nothing really equates to me like FFXI. So I came back... and tried not to hack as much ^^.

Graphics wise, yes its not the greatest if you have a mediocre video card and pc, but I just got a new Alienwarez system and the difference is night and day.... the details and fluid motion are sooooo sweet even when I'm running 2 windows. So take and give on that.

What everyone says about waiting for party is also true. Depending on what job you decide to play kinda determines your invite rate as well. In cases like trying to find a party, I normally use a /tell detect program while I'm doing something else so I dont waste my time staring at the screen... that makes this part of the game not so bad.

Economy wise, as a starting player things are tough. You don't have many options to make money outside of hacking/cheating. However, it is NOT impossible. You just have to find your own way and keep at it. Having a "good" linkshell is almost a must for this. You can form static BCNM parties and money keeps rolling in.

All in all, this game is worth at least a try for anyone. For myself, its an ongoing addiction to pimp out my character... for seemingly no apparent reason...

well i think FFXI is worth trying at least, its good for a while but gets old fast.

im just going to list cons;

same graphic engine as ps2.
shittiest UI you will EVER find.
you look for parties longer than you level.
when you do get a party usually everyone is a moron and you die a couple times, coming out to a big 0 exp gained for your 6 hours.
if your character gets to good square will nerf the !@#$%^&* out of it.
if you make to much money, square will nerf it.
Square WILL nerf it, no matter what. It will be nerfed.
if its too easy, square will make it too hard to even think about with a full alliance of 75s.
everything takes about 1 year to do.

GMs dont do !@#$%^&* !@#$%^&* worth a damn !@#$%^&*
crap !@#$%^&* customer support.
SE doesnt give a !@#$%^&* about you, they just want your money.
If its nots SEs way, its not right.
if you try to make the game better expect a ban

updates are almost daily.
the servers are a !@#$%^&* joke.
expect a full day of maitenance at least 1 time a week.
The logon process takes longer than youll actually end up playing.
I actually think it would be impossible to make the game more uncustomizable by the user.
expect everyone to call you a noob and never help you out.
The game is flocking with "1337zor LOLZ!!!!" noobs that speak their own language; noobish, which is impossible to understand by anyone who has a brain.
the economy sucks !@#$%^&* because sqaure didnt want to do it right. so newcomers are so !@#$%^&* in the @$$ its not even funny.
inflation is through the roof.
everything costs to damn much.
you have to have Alot of money to make money, so, GL with that.
you have to farm more than you play.
PVP system is just laughable.
The town layouts are just !@#$%^&* rediculous.
quests are useless.
Impossible to get anywhere without speedhacking.
It takes forever to get anywhere without speedhacking.
you have to devote about 12 hours just to start playing.
YOU CAN NOT SOLO.
EVERYTHING MUST MUST MUST BE DONE WITH PARTIES.

thats about 1/100 of the list of cons. I honestly cant think of any pros.

The only reason i even log on is to devolope bots and other tools for the community because I think its fun. (I know, im a freakin nerd)

yes, I do hate ffxi, a lot.

Everything quoted in bold is absolutely true. The rest of it, while I can understand, is not true, and believed out of resentment and frustration with the game system and immature peer players. The game targets young gamers, so the typical player has poor communication/team skills.

well i dunno.... i liked WoW for the first like...... 1 month then quit...

There is good things about other games and bad things about other games. Same with FFXI, there are good things and bad things.

WoW yes you could solo, however its hard to make friends in WoW. And since you can solo from lvl1 to end game is a good thing however it is also a bad thing...
Ive been in many guilds... They are all good players but they all miss a important aspect of the game.

Team play, Alot of ppl solo from lvl 1 to high lvl, they never learned team play before.

However in FFXI ya learn team play early on.

I hated WoW and other games for their lack of teaching of team play, thats where it was most frustrating everybody is egoistic and just feeding their Epenis. People are like look at my gear.... my !@#$%^&* is sooooooo long.... come suck it if you want me to help you.

I didnt feel that any of the bosses in WoW was really that hard, what made it hard was that nobody could work with each other... I felt that if i brought my whole Linkshell from FFXI over to WoW we could clear the place sooooo easy....

FFXI has its good and bad parts, only reason i found that FFXI lasted so long was its Community, without its community people would have been long gone to another game. Friends is what we have in FFXI since we were lvl 1 we feel attached to them and wanna play with them more and more.... where as people in WoW and other games are attached to their equipment and how awesome they think they are.

And about Servers.... i felt FFXI servers were one of the best out of all the games i played (EQ2, WoW)...
Not sure when it was that you are talking about maintance every day.... hmm, right now i only notice 1 per month... (unlike WoW's maintance once per week)

And hell these servers are ALOT better than WoW or any other games..... i hated WoW ones TOOO MUCH lag..... just jump into IronForge and you will lag out.... and take like 20min to relog back in......

Haha you can solo actually in FFXI =P Summoner and Beastmaster classes can solo =P Black Mage can also solo when they get higher level.

I liked how they made transport in FFXI, it made the world feel big..... but thats just me. haha
