DRK is an interesting job.
There is a right answer to this question... its whatever race you chose to play on FFXI. However with that said lets look closer at the desputed races (mainly Taru, Galka, and elveen)
Taru as a DRK
-> has higher INT, for anybody who has partied up with a Taru BLM you'll typically see higher DMG output from there spell casting. Higher INT also increases the "accuracy" of the spell.
-> has more MP, this translates into one of two things. One: more spells per round of combat = more DOT. Two: Investing in better attribute gear rather than MP gear = better stats
-> has natural evasion, not to nerd it up but the basis in any RPG from FFXI to D&D states that smaller targets are harder to hit.
-> has higher Darkness relationship = this equates to harder hitting Absorbs, which sadly enough not to many ppl on my server take advantage of. Using absorbs helps out greatly during a fight. Ex : Absorbing MND from a creature during a fight lowers its magic defense and since its an absorb, it'll increase yours slightly.
Galka as a DKN
-> more HP, this is great for DKN do to the fact that there higher level gears lower Vit and other Physical Dmg ability scores, another benifit of higher hp is a longer Soul Eater wich is one of the highest melee dmg sources in the game.
-> They have natural defense
-> high STR scores is more melee DMG per given round
Elveen as a DKN (i don't like elveen personally, but most ppl do...)
-> High STR = high melee DMG output
-> MP is higher than Galkas
-> high MND = Survivability vs spellcasters
etc... personally i'd choose this in order of my personal preferance of races for drk values (Taru, Hume, Galka, Mithra, Elveen). hey its just my opinion after all
