Although the context didnt say an X-Unleased logo, I thought id take the chance to give an example for the sphere.

After that I thought Id try something closer to the old logo.
Only made it in black. I think you get the general idea by now.

Or again with the simplifed versions. Pure logo.
Style one. Clear background.
Style two. Clear background X unleashed.
Style two, clear background, no X.

what could be done with the sphere? like putting images into it or something , would that look any good? first thing i thought of was a planet and thought maybe an ancient world map,
example: http://members.aol.com/bowermanb/ancient.gif
buut maybe like small images of the characters circulating it almost like a chain would be cool, something a lil xtra for the sphere?

The only issue is that these logos wouldnt usually be displayed this large. If you take a look at the rest of the site, they take up minimal space, which also means i have to becareful with the font i choose.
If you put too much detail into a little space it becomes harder to make out or simply not as eye grabbing. An example would be the heading for this page, where your eyes are taken from the "tault unleashed" and go straight to the image behind it.
I wanted the logo to be the first thing you see and high contrast. Im actually more partial to the plain sphere than the textured one.
I think i know what you mean with the word map. A reflective globe with a world image wrapped around it? Ill have a play around with that after some sleep. My photoshop skills arent anything special, im learning this as i go.

You will find many of the most easily recognisable logos you will find are very simple. Many large companies just use a particular font style with no logo (Coca-cola, Exxon, kleenex, Google, McDonalds, IBM, yahoo), while others use a simple circle and text (Mercedes, BMW, Texaco)
Look around at many of the popular sites on the web. Keep it simple (MS Windows, Adobe, Shell, BP), so people remember it.
Out of all my examples, for a pure logo, id say Style 1 (Simple circle and text) is my favourite, as I can remember it easily and draw it out of my head. Plus its like a new improved evolution from the old design..
Though thats simply my own biased opinion.

im feeling the sphere with the cut in it the most, alot of people are just using text , would rather see an actual complete logo like the vault one, or that sphere one that uses nice fonts and has an image to represent it

I like the one with wow backround everything just fits together, and the darth vader w/o the sphere looks cool too. Maybe not a logo though, but tault good use it as a banner.

I'm all for simplicity but there has to be a sense of style aswell. They are all full of confilicting and dull colours, grey (well light blue) is not an interesting colour.
