Turn Google into Napster 2000

Okay peeps, I’m sure most of you know how to use Limewire and Bittorrent these days. But, I’ll bet you haven’t used Google to perform a quick Mp3 search for the nagging song that’s been stuck in your head all day. The truth is that Google can be used to conduct a search for almost any file type, including Mp3s, PDFs, and videos. This functionality has been available for a long time, but most users haven’t caught on to it. So here’s a quick example of how to use Google to search for Mp3s. It’s like turning Google into the Napster of 2000.

The following is a Google search string for searching open web directories containing downloadable Nirvana music files. Substitute the term Nirvana in the search string for any other band of your liking. You can always bookmark the search result for future use.

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “Nirvana”

With some very slight modifications the same search string can easily be used to search for ebooks in DOC and PDF format:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(pdf|doc) “george orwell 1984″

Or perhaps your looking for some specific video file:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(mpg|wmv) “towelie”

You can check the official Google Advanced Search Operators page for further details on editing this search string to meet your specific needs. Enjoy yourselves!

allofmp3.com had a fun thing where you could dl any song in their library free of charge at 128kbps. only problem with it was that it was .mp3x so it only played in their player. they had for a week where their own program removed the copyright from the songs obviously to boost their sales when they fixed it because the site has cheap songs DRM free but what sucks is that it was in 128kbps. i can only deal with 192+

It's such a minor difference. Are you sure you can actually tell the difference between the 2 every time? Like if I played them both of some song you didn't know you'd be able to tell me every time?

they didnt ban it. certain cc do not work on the site anymore but they work on their sister sites. and yes rabid let me listen to two mp3's where there is a good song (well good in my eyes) and i can tell which is which.

pink floyd is pretty easy to tell which is which. whenever i have multiple ones of the same song and im too lazy to check the bitrate (even though it would take me 3 clicks max) i listen to them and nuke the crappier one and i have not been wrong yet.

if you can not tell the diffrence between 128 and 192 you need to pay more attention to the songs. although i accept 192 songs i would rather have a 320kbps song. i would rather have my entire ipod filled with only 1000 320kbps songs rather than 4000 128 songs. or rather have 500 lossless songs.

I probably can then. Never tried listening to 2 different bit rates.
Anyone care to put up 2 diff bit rates and same song?

This is great btw.

I can't personally hear a diffrence between 128 vs 192, but I can hear it in 320 vs 128. However that can be understood.

wuwu.
