 why do my graphics own so hard on XU? : General Discussion

as ive said before my graphics are as bad as can be, theres a thread on it somewhere. but with XU my graphics are a SHITl oad better, i can actually see summoners, water looks like water and i can see spells like utsusemi / cure. i cant see them on windower or even the regular FFXI! whats XU do to my graphics card that all those doesnt?
