ummm cant connect to mmo's (like SWG & rag) : Lineage 2 General Discussions

heres a post i made on another forum looks like its useless to ask for hlp there so ill paste it here.

I think i found the problem and i need hlp fixing it.. The problem i think is the ports have to be enabled. I tried the SWG trial but i dl tht big file and find out i cant connect past the station launcher... Anyways i put ragnarok online on today i can go past login server. I was able to patch ok... i want to see if i can enable ports on my comp. I am on a LAN and cannot mess with the router ports but it shouldnt b tht bc i was able to play fine awhile ago on both games its just these past 2 or so weeks i couldnt. I am using windows xp home with SP1 dunno if the firewall is enabled i dun even know where to look for that. I am a newb when it comes to internet routers and ports so i dun know much on that subject.

What i wanna know is where can i enable outbound traffic to specific ports and if the xp home fw is enabled by default and how to disable it or go to settings on it and where to find it. If i could find out how to enable these damn ports i might be able to play.

Since i posted this i have found tht xp's firewall is not active. Also i quit L2 late may and it wuz working then so the problem just arose and i didnt do nothin and 1 of my family members who controls the whole router n modem says he did not do anything. I think he may have done something cause i cant mess with that i just want to know what

To change ports on your router depends on what router you have. Look in the manual for it and see if there is something you can do. Usually you type "127.0.0.1" in the address bar and it goes to your router config. Thats weird that it just started happening, it could be the new patch that you downloaded, which doesn't have the same rights as the patch before did. I know on my firewall I have to reset the rules for Lineage2 everytime there is a new patch.

check you IP addy:start>run=cmd in the prompt type ipconfig if you have a linksys router your IP should be 192.x.x.x if not try to refreash the ip(with a restart or by typeing ipconfig /release<ENTER> then ipconfig /renew<ENTER> if this doesnt change the IP then you may have a software firewall or mabye you need to reinstall your nic drivers. If all of these steps dont work then try to call the router mfg. or just disconect from the router and see if you can connect if not then the setup on the routter has changd and you need to get it reconfiged for you machine(i.e. your comp needs and ip inside of the router like the other comps will get ip addy's of (if linksys)comp #1 192.168.1.100, comp#2 192.168.1.101 and so on let me know how it goes.

i do have 192 as the 1st ip #'s but whts this have to do with me not connecting to mmorpg's? I tried 3 and i can only connect to 2. In RYL i can connect i just cant see ppl walk... also ragnarok is still stuck and SWG still cant connect yet i can play ut2k4 & all other fps online. On my router FTP ports were blocked could that be the problem? Since FTP sends packets... i dun see y it would tho. I am not sure if tht is the problem bc it has been like that for a long time b4 i had this problem i am not positive on what a mmorpg uses to send thru ports like wht type of connection but i sure as hell dont think it goes thru ftp. Anyways what should i do i have 192.xxx.xx.x.xxx ip

when i type tht in it does nothing. I dun have the manual but i use Dlink router i think. Also what *patch* is dled that could have done this? I only get windows updates vid card drivers and game patches.

ya that info there is just to TS the connection if you can get online but not play mmorpg's thats something else. try to find out what ports the game runs on and make sure that they are open on the router. Also if you can't play these games on the other comps then its deff. the router if they can its the port setup on your comp ,and we can go from there

ok i found the problem and fixed it... turns out the ports to IRC were blocked and i guess these mmo's used them for connecting so i can connect fine now thanks for all ur hlp guys i rlly appreciate it


O as soon as i connect to the game GM tells us server r goin down for mantianance... imagine tht lol
