God I Love Nukes
This is a 1-15 beginner guide for mages.
First off, the Human Mage is extremely powerful at these low levels, I can't comment on how effective they are at higher levels, but in regards to the first ten levels they are dominant.
Build
This part is very simple, at level 7 you are able to train new spells, here is where you will be able to start advancing as a true Nuke Mage. At level 7 make sure that you buy the Ice spell, its essential to kiting, as it slows down your enemies considerably. Also you'll want to start pumping you wind spell, as it will be your primary damage dealer for awhile. You want to get Wind Spell at level 3 and Ice at level 2 as soon as possible. Invest any extra points into heal, trust me, parties will love you.
With Wind and Ice maxed you will be pumping out quite a decent amount of damage. Now that we have your skills covered lets move on to how you need to use these skills.
Tactics
Ok, here is the basic rule of thumb. If they are green or white, hit them with the Wind Spell first becuase you will likely be able to drop them before they can reach you. If they are yellow and above you have to Kite them. By Kite I mean, hit them once with the ice spell, and then with the Wind Spell, after that keep running out of there range and blast them with your wind spells.
At these early levels, I wouldn't worry about buying an expensive staff yet, invest in some armor, since your damage will be completly dependent on your spells at this point. The more armor you have the better chance you have of surviving those yellow enemies.
Stay away from light reds at this point. You really have no chance of taking them down solo, no matter how good your equip is.
Levels 1 through 6 are pretty simple, just kill the starter monsters.
At level 7 hunt down and kill some werewolves, goblin scouts, and orcs, these are easy kills for a mage still and you most likely won't need to kite too much.
At levels 10 - 15 or so start fighting Stone Soldiers if you can. They are exceptionally slow and are very easy to drop for a mage, not to mention the excellent exp. they give. For slightly harder kills but equally good exp fight some werewolf cheiftans, Werewolf Hunters, orc leaders, or Orc Sub Leaders. These make take some kiting but with your 1-2 combo it should be pretty easy.
Overall
To me, this is the most effective spellcaster if your looking to do some damage. With these tactics you will find cases where you just can't drop the enemy.
Remember if you run into trouble, just run away, blast em with Ice, and shoot that bad boy down.
