SWG vs WOW : Star Wars Galaxies Discussions

I currently am playing WOW and was trying to decide if I wanted to play a different MMO and the first that game to mind was SWG. Does SWG offer a good PVP system and interesting quests?
It would be nive to hear from anyone that has played both.

Well yes it does certainly for first timers, but I cant compare it to WOW.

What keeps bringing people back to SWG is the Star Wars and its got a decent control system and great player housing.

Thats what I missed when trying other MMO.

How much "Travel time" is lost? THe only thing about WOW that annoys me is that it takes me FOREVER sometimes to get from point A to point B and even if I pay to take a gryphon it isn't instant to a new place its like a wait of anywhere from 1-8 minutes

Ah well its very quick to travel around most Servers in SWG. You have player city shuttles, speeders, Jetpacks, Personal Travel vehicles (Ships that land and take you to a shuttle) .

Thats one good thing.

wow can never compare to swg even in the crippled state it is in, swg in my opinion is and was the best of the best

I love SWG, you should certainly try it out if you've never played it before. Its cool because theres more modern-style things like vehicles and guns and droids - which the mideival MMO's dont have. Also, like mentioned above, its great to be able to get your own house and decorate it, store stuff in it, and just hang out Also you can buy ships and fly around in space and some you can even decorate, bring friends in, and walk around in them (like YT-1300's and Yachts and other Transport ships).

Anyways, you shoud definitely give SWG a try if you are looking for other MMO's to play. If nothing else you can at least try the 10-day trial of it (cant leave the beginner space station though, but it'll give you somewhat of a feel for the game)

Yah walking around inside ships is great. I dont know another game that offers that. Especially the big multilevel multiroom ships.

i think that SWG owns WoW cause there is more to do in SWG then there is is WoW.

WoW ownz SWG they screwed it up so much with the NGE. Player housing for SWG was insane though I loved that, but SWG fails.

I dissagree. The reason you most likely dislike it (as well as with alot of other vets) is because you played it before. When there is a change you need to look at it from a new perspective and not in comparison to what it was before.

I played pre-NGE and I continue to play post-NGE. Im still enjoying it and looking forward to the upcoming publishes (well.. chapters now) and additions.

The devs are working hard to try to compromise with all the different views of what the game should be like and I think they are dooing pretty good at it

Also I cant wait for the Battle of Restuss, that looks like its gonna be awesome

Edit: Oh also, the graphics in WoW are all cartoony and colorful and such. Even on their forums and their website. I think SWG has excelent graphics which look realistic and very much like in the movies, as well as a great, good-looking, informative, interactive website (Especially all the shockwave/flash movies on it, they really add alot to the site)

hmmmm,u got a point there.SWG did own in pre-cu and that was the best game i have played in pre-cu,so i think they are a bit even

No the devs screwed over SWG. Now everyone's a freaking jedi and those who aren't get owned. Gfx get owned by WoW. Exploration gets owned by WoW. Housing ownz WoW. They're meant to add in housing. And yes of course I'm going to compare it before and after since it's still meant to be the same game.

ok rabid, how about this than (just for arguments sake ), post or link a pic of maybe a fight or something cool in WoW. Then we will see if SWG can beat it
