I recently had the chance to sit down with Lead Game Designer Noah Ward and get to know a bit about his goals and the direction of EVE Online.
John: How did you land the position of Lead Game Designer at CCP?
Noah: I was a player in beta and then I started in the volunteer team as one of the bug hunters. And then I was hanging out in IRC with the guys a lot and then I moved my way up to the bug hunter team and eventually I was an elite bug hunter. A lot of the stuff I was doing was testing a lot of the stuff that wasn't out yet, and I was giving feedback on balance concerns, writing overly long documents about what I thought stuff should be and then pretty much the lead game designer at the time and the senior producer said "Why don't you come to Iceland and do this for a living?" So I started out kind of as an intern. Then I went from intern to lead designer over the course of the last three years. Climbing the corporate ladder!
