http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/CurrencyCurrency describes the game's five units of commerce that are used to pay for goods and services. A character's accumulated currency is tracked numerically at the bottom the inventory panel; it does not take up any inventory space.
Currencies
Bronze, Silver or Gold Coin(s) • Gem(s) • Glory • Influence • Karma
Bronze, Silver, or Gold Coin(s) is the most common form of currency accepted by NPCs and is the basis for player trade. It can be obtained by playing the game or selling gems.
Gems are used to purchase items from the in-game store; they can be exchanged or traded for coin.
Glory is used to unlock skins for use in Structured PvP; it can only be obtained through participation in that game mode.
Influence is used for guild upgrades and boons; it is earned when players representing a guild participate in events, PvP, personal storyline. A guild's accumulated influence can be seen via the guild panel (G).
Karma is used to purchase valuable items from designated NPCs; it cannot be traded and must be earned by participating in dynamic events or helping others with their personal storylines.
Supply is used to purchase additions and upgrades from WvW Quartermasters.
Players can directly trade two types of currency: coin and gems; glory and karma cannot be traded (and influence is accrued by the guild, not the individual player).
This is a video detailing how hearts once completed turn into karma vendors and the types of items you can expect to buy from them.

The trading post is the Guild Wars 2 player trading system. It is global, enabling trade between all players across different servers.
The Trading Post works like an auction house where a player can sell and buy items without the need to trade with a buyer or seller in person. You can buy from or sell to the Trading Post from anywhere in the game by right-clicking the item you want to sell.
You only have to go to a Trading Post to collect an item you bought on it or the profit from something you sold through it.The Trading Post currency is in-game gold.
The fee for trading on the Trading Post is 5% of the sales price.
