Hello,
I am a writer for PC World magazine. I'm also a WoW player.
I'm interested in interviewing someone who farms for real world cash in WoW. Based on the recent announcement from Blizzard that it has banned 1,000 members for farming for real-world cash, I'd like to do a different story that gets into the mind of the farmer. If you got banned, I'm happy to talk with you. If you escaped banning, I'm happy to chat with you.
Questions like:
1. How long have you been farming?
2. What other mmorpgs have you farmed in?
3. Is it a full-time job?
4. How much can you make on a good day?
5. Given the recent Blizzard announcements, how paranoid are you of getting caught?
5. And so on...
I would like to do a telephone interview, and I promise you that it will be 100 percent anonymous.
I will not ask you questions about what servers you play on. Or character names, or anything that could remotely identify you.
If you're interested in being interviewed and giving an anonymous insiders look, I'd love to chat with you.
You can contact me via e-mail. I am at David_Lake@pcworld.com

First time I've seen it, only been around 1.5 years though.
Granted, do people farm gold in WoW? I thought it all came from people selling their accounts when they noticed how much the game sucks.

No responses yet. There must be some gold farmers out there looking to talk anonymously. If not, what other sites should I try to find folks for interviews?
Thanks.

I'm sure they are hard to find out of game , but in game is so easy.
just head to Azshara, there are a ton of farmers out there my guess half of them sell gold for RL . Most of them do not speak a work of english and get really made if you even come in the area.
I myself have reported 9 people there for farming.
after the baning I have only seen 3 of them.
the cows are getting thiner like my hair.

Intriguing response, darkage. You make the farmers in Azshara sound like thugs protecting their fields of hidden marijuanna plants.
I don't want to try to contact people in-game, because people will immediately think I'm an employee of Blizzard, trying to ban them.
Second, I can't just shout out that I'm a writer for a magazine and want to interview someone who farms gold for RL cash. No one will contact me that way, and I don't want to put my business e-mail out over the /1, /2 etc. channels.
Guess I could send whispers, but I'm not sure that will be effective either.
Thanks for the tips, though. I might have to give something like that a try.
Any other thoughts, folks?
Regards

email the account holders of the ebay auctions?
buy some and then ask to interview the person who delivers it.
go to the web sites of the cash sellers and send email to them.

I dont think farmers, in the sense you're probably thinking, frequent this site. Not the big name farmers. They are mostly from overseas, asia, (china specifically) who work out of Internet Cafe's. They have shifts just like a normal job however they farm gold. There is usually a "boss" who doesn't do the actual farming, but does the selling of the cash.
The characters are played by multiple people who make a kind of "commision" for the gold they get.
Most have very bad armor for their level, as they sell any decent armor they get right away, and don't bother w/ quests as the rewards are soulbound.
Azshara was the place to farm for a long time but it was nerfed, next it was Scarlet Monastary, and that is being nerfed, w/ a few minor nerfs already in place. (the illusionary rod etc sell for a LOT less)
The people who come to this site for their farming needs are likely not the cashcows who sell it for real world cash. We do it for personal benefit and generally take the "Work" out of mmorpg's and bring back the "Fun".
