Tseric from Blizzard had a couple of interesting comments during another thread debate over the Warrior Damage issue and some users trying to quote the game manual in defense. I thought it contained some insightful stuff for us...
There have been some changes to the manual for precisely the reasons being played out here. A rogue is arguing that they should be relegated to "Top DPS" status because the manual alludes to such claims. The only purpose that serves is, once any other class may out-damage them in some particular circumstance, they can come to the boards with ammo saying "I was promised Top DPS but some warrior just yadda yadda...
What some people are doing is attempting to pigeon-hole themselves and others based on their interpretation of "class role". When someone trys to do this for themselves it can affect others. If rogues are pushed to clearly dominate the DPS charts it would be at the trade-off of stealth, crowd-control and other abilities rogues can bring to a group. Now all you're good for is doing DPS. How boring. No more stealth runs with your druid buddies. No more stun-lock fun for you. You got a knife, go stab something. Still want to be assured a top DPS spot?
