With the upcoming expansion we will be introducing arena battles and to give you a better idea of what to expect, here are the rules:
* You do not talk about arena battles.
* When a player enters an arena battle, all buffs and conjured items are purged/deleted. This is done to ensure no outside buffs or items from members outside of your team are able to be used in an arena battle.
* No consumables other than bandages and conjured items can be used while in the arena. There will be a waiting area similar to the current battlegrounds where players on the team will be able to conjure items and cast buffs.
* Abilities/spells/items with cooldowns longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.
* Each arena team will be given a rating, and will be matched up in the arena queue against teams of a similar rating. As time progresses the matching system will broaden its search up to a limit if a closely rated team cannot be found.
* Ratings adjustments are made in the same way that ELO ratings adjustments are made. This system works by adjusting each arena teams rating from a specific match based on the rating of the team they are up against. If a team wins against a team of a higher rating, the increase of their arena rating would be much higher than if they had won against a team of a lower rating. This system will help promote players improving their skill and besting teams which may have previously held the top spots.
* At the end of each week, characters receive arena points based on their team's rating. A team must have fought a minimum number of battles for the week, which we have announced as currently set to 10 games. A player must have played in at least 30% of the team’s battles that week in order to be eligible to receive arena points. Each eligible player will then receive a fraction of the team’s total awarded points to spend on arena rewards.
* Players may spend their points on arena rewards, or save their points until they have enough to get the rewards they desire.
* There is a limit to the number of points a player can stockpile, which is currently planned to be as high as the most expensive item.
* At the end of a season, players on a team are given a title based on their team’s relative position on the ladder which will last through the next arena season.
I am looking forward to doing arenas. Ive been wanting this idea to come around for some time and it looks like they have it. The consumables kinda sucks but I dont think we know enough info about the arena to really see if they mean all consumables or a few that can still be used. What does everyone think of the new arena system being put in the expansion?

I think its a great idea, minus the consumables/ect. I think it will do very well, I'm glad they added the point system so you can get rewards (encourages people to play).

i dont think that deleting already active buffs is bad, but who cares if you already conjured an item? and also you cant use anything with a cooldown of longer than 15 mins!?

It is a good idea, I like the idea of the hard core pvpers playing arena and the not so hard core playing Battlegrounds. One question, however, is will there level requirements on the items. We wont want twinks to be running around and demolishing everything with aton of armor.

I think that it kinda sucks for all those without great gear , but the whole endgame is so gear dependant its not even funny. I think they need to release an arena where everyone gets to choose from to make its all skill if you want.
But curse them for nerfing the warriors best spells because they have too long of a cooldown

I heal fine with cruddy gear. In MC i was #1 in effective healing wearing almost all greens with some blues and no enchants.

yeah but if your a warrior, you're extremely gear dependant. I left a guild I was with for a while because one day I was on vent and I don't have a mic so they didnt know I was there and while i was tanking a boss they were joking about my gear because I only had 4 blues.

I've found certain classes to be very gear dependant, warriors for example, rogues and hunters to an extent.
The problem i've had with gear is that you never get the good stuff without raiding ZG and MC and AQ constantly, i don't know about anyone else but i have a life outside my games room.
As for arenas it's gonna turn into a E-peen stroking contest, and yes the better geared player is always gonna win...unless you know your class real damned well, and not many players do.
Or if your a druid or Pally....then you will own no matter your gear

Twinks will always win for their level. To bad they are going to rid of the buffs we have when we go in there because it would slightly even the playing field.
