Just depends on what you like to do. If your on a PvP server I would say a rogue.
My rogue is a HWL and I can 2 shot a Plate full tier 2 warrior. I love my rogue nothing can stand him.
Warlocks are allways a good class.. No single mob in this game can kill them. I can fear and Dot all game long. + they are allso very good for PVP as well. (but i hear they are getting nerfed.)
Mages. Ohhhhh how i love my mage. I poly and keep doing it over and over ice blast blink run away for a few seconds mount chase them down and do it again... I love to watch somone log over 15 mins of poly (I have no life) + after a while they get on there main....and get owned do to the fact that a pvp mage is huge!
Those i would have to say are my most favorite classes in the game.
For race... there is no other. Undead. You get every good racial that everyone wants.
Will of the forsaken (instant fear drop and if you have the pvp trinket that is x2)
Canablize. Free food after owning your fellow alliance..... and it is also degrading.
Slow Fall. If your a rogue you can jump off the zeplin and never die. This is also good in PVP. If you jump down to the mine and they follow it is like a huge crit + you can stealth drop ninja the flag. And you can jump off the LM to get to BS faster or to get away from an NME.

If your just planning to make another character and twink it, deffenitly a rouge, for reasons above. But if your making a character to level up to 60, and want to have some good pvp without having to spend alot of money, I would go with a warrior. At level 19, warriors own everything that gets in there way in my experiance (execpt twinks). Get a two hander, keep a good one hander and shield for when your fighting a paladin, mage or warlock, and have fun. Paladins are also very good at level 19, because they can heal themselves and do pretty good damage.

a well specced lock is hard to top for pve or pvp great for farming as you can take several mobs dopt the bunch and then just wait for them to drop
in pvp you have 3-4 options for fearing wich sucks alot if your on the oposite end of it
as far as locks being nerfed in tbc i believe that only affects arena's they get several skills to make up for the small nerf aswell

It really depends on your play-style.
Hands down though, Undead is the best race for PvP. Will of the forsaken and cannibalize are both godly.
Now for class, i would recommend...
Rogue - for people that like to be stealthy, get behind enemy lines and pick them off one by one.
Warlock - for people who like to have control over their target at all time and also have the ability to take on multiple targets
Warrior - for people who like to be able to rush in and take down as many as you can before you die
Hunter - for people who like to stay at a distance and chase down their foes
Hope this helps

My favorites have always been warrior or mage. The two classic types, tank and caster. Tanks are always fun because of their ability to take and deal out massive amounts of damage. Being able to be the front runner in a charge or the flag carrier is the best.
Now mage is fun for those who don't like to die as much, just sit back and blast your opponent. You don't get as many killing blows but you do hit for massive dmg and are often a crucial part of any battle.
This is just my two cents and i hope it helps.

the only problem with Mage is that you have very little armor, usually you just get plowed through, they are a fun PvE class, but i would not recommend them for PvP

SHAMAN
Most versitial pvp class in game:
-totems
-grounding(blocks harmful spell effects)
-tremor(dispells fear)
-Searing (hits for 50 on people)
-much more..
-You can heal yourself
-Duelweilding is teh pwnage
-Gear is not super important, yet easy to get.
-Everyone always wants you
-WINDFURY = 2 extra attacks
-Lighting Sheild (hits the attacker when they attack you)
-Chance egin mana on hits(ench tree)
Make your shaman a orc or a tauren
-Orc = Bloodfury(?) - ap/spell damage buff - axe crit increased
-Tauren = warstomp - 3 second stun

shaman can deliver short bursts of PvP greatness, but I wouldn't say they were "fun". Playing a hybrid class usually makes it tough to PvP because you are expected to heal and damage. It can become quite stressful at times.

Undead rogue or warlock if you want to feel powerful in pvp.
Hunter if you want to feel overpowered in pve, or mage. You can solo things most people dont like killing in groups. Warlock is also the same but a mage or hunter will have an easier times soloing.

Whatever you enjoy..
Paladins : Survivability, best PvP healing in the game
Priests: Great DPS/Control with Shadow form, good DPS + great healing w/ other specs.
Shamans: Resto Shaman can now stand up to a pally's survivability, minus bubble. Enhance shaman VERY good dps, versatile.
Rogue: DPS DPS DPS (and stealth)
Warrior: DPS DPS DPS (and lots of armor)
Warlock: Fears, DOTs, Felguard (omg great), great dps
Hunter: Great ranged DPS. If you can keep them out of melee, you'll own them.
Druid: Very hard to kill in PvP, excellent healers, GREAT flag runners in WSG. Can do pretty good dps if specced right.
Mage: DPS and control. Very good DPS.
Just figure out what YOU like to play.. don't let anybody tell you what the 'best class' is.

I agree with potobble, go with whatever your play style is, there is no "best class" except for maybe hunter because they need an uber nerf.
