Drysc from Blizzard states they are aware of come concerns surrounding fishing and offer this commentary on the subject...
We're definitely aware of the concerns surrounding fishing, mostly based around that thing people like to call "fun". Some could argue that fishing in World of Warcraft is similar to fishing in real life, and it's just going to bore some of us to tears.
As many of you may remember changes were made to the original fishing design to thwart exploitative use of the fishing profession, but since then some great innovations for the profession have come through. Most notably fishing nodes now allow players a better chance to catch more valuable fish if they take the time to find the nodes. There are also similar fishing nodes that give a better chance to fish up valuable items. More recently the fishing timer was reduced by 10 seconds, which results in more fish - faster - and now a cast is guaranteed not to complete without a nibble. Some big improvements, some small, but all working towards making fishing a little less tedious, and a little more fun (ie profitable).
Our goal of course is to have it fun and accessible to everyone, and it's definitely something we're keeping in mind for future improvements.
Thanks
