May 14, 2007 - The announcement of Blizzard’s arena tournament set off a frenzy of intense PvP action; Never before had there been a chance to test your skills in such a controlled format against the best players around. As the tournament has progressed, however, it’s no longer a test to see who is the strongest; it’s become a battle to be the only eligible team left standing.
During the online ladder, nearly half the teams who made it into the final fifty suffered from eligibility issues due to location. Players from Canada and a few states like Vermont were not eligible to compete in the next round, part of the fine print in Blizzard’s strict rules regarding arena play. That diluted the competitive field, as many top teams lost some of their key players and some were unable to move to the next round at all, turning the qualifying round into an inactive mess of a competition with only nine teams rated over 1500 and very few active at all.
