It's a tradition for Blizzard to reveal its official patch notes just before making an update to its massively multiplayer hit World of Warcraft. With players still working their way through the massive amount of new content released in Burning Crusade, the latest series of patch notes will come as a surprise. Along with the usual collection of class tweaks, bug fixes and UI updates, the upcoming patch will unleash a torrent of new content on a populace that hasn't yet managed to master what's in the game already.
The biggest news in the upcoming patch is the opening of the Black Temple. This massive raid instance is already visible in Shadowmoon Valley and is the home of Illidan, the "uber bad guy" seen in the expansion pack's opening movie. While few if any details have been released about the Black Temple experience, it's expected that players will be able to fight Illidan himself and that the instance should contain the kind of epic loot that raiders who are only now mastering the Karazhan instance can only dream about.
Other new content in the patch include the Ethereum Prison, a Consortium theme area; the Arakkoa capital city of Skettis where a new flying mount can be found; Ogri'la, the ogre plateau of enlightenment; and the completion of the Nether Drake quest line. Ogri'la includes a new faction to grind, new rare and epic items to acquire and new versions of aerial bombing runs, including some done from the back of a personal mount. The Nether Drake line will open the doors for the acquisition of the Nether Drake mount, a special 280% speed mount.
The patch also contains some big tweaks for a number of classes and professions. Hunter get a buff in the patch via a change to their "Kill Command" and "Pet Heal" abilities that will make their pets do a lot more damage and be tougher to kill. Druids will at last be able to get their epic flight form via a new series of quests. The long-neglected Engineering profession got a bit of love with a new series of epic craftable goggles. Enhancement and elemental shamans, on the other hand, got hit with a nerf bat as their Windfury Weapon ability was altered and the Elemental Focus talent was completely changed. As with most World of Warcraft patches, there is no announced release date, but it should make for an interesting new Azeroth when 2.1.0 goes live.
