Last weekend I spent a lot of time gett9ing the PC ready for StarCraft 2 and after getting the machine rigge dup with an SLi configuration I tested it over the weekend on Battlefield bad Company 2 to push the hardware. After some tweaking it was all working great.
Tuesaday arrived and StarCraft 2 was fired up. After a short period of time the PC started producing a nasty fizzing noise and would then shut down. After further inspection of the graphics cards, the top card was scorching hot, even with a direct fan in place and four fans in the PC.
During the Beta there was problem with video cards overheating which Blizzard say was caused by the screen being refreshed too often causing the card to overheat. Blizzard released a solution:

A temporary workaround is to go to your DocumentsStarCraft II Betavariables.txt file and add these lines: frameratecapglue=30 frameratecap=60 You may replace these numbers if you want to. |

I have not yet tried and tested this solution with the retail version of the game but once removing the SLi configuration the game would start to run fine with the one card. A similar overheating problem has been experienced by the guys at Gameinformer who have been busy frying video cards.
Had this problem? Let us know.
