One Shots: Rock on

While not every achievement is marked with a flashy badge or a listing on a leaderboard, there are still tons of them to be enjoyed out in the MMOGsphere. Today, we have a personal happy moment that Matthew (also known as Charles@Tiberius1986) achieved — and decided to share with us from Star Trek Online. He writes in to explain it to those of us who aren’t zipping around in this particular corner of MMO space:

Today marked the day I had finally saved up enough to purchase the Dreadnought starship in Star Trek Online. I play the game every day, and [this ship is] a wonderful reward for endgame players who love the game. I took this beautiful image while resource gathering in a star system. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

If you’ve accomplished something that you’d like to show off, why not take a screenshot and send it in to us here at oneshots@massively.com! Be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we’re seeing. Guilds, servers, or other information like that are welcome as well. It could wind up as the next one we post here on One Shots.

Name Conflict Resolution Appeals

Greetings all~

Some clarification on what determines who keeps a name!

Name Conflict Resolution Appeals

Greetings Daevas,

We’ve received quite a lot of feedback and suggestions from you on how to handle name collisions since we outlined the process for server merge same-name conflicts.

Limitations in our merge tools prevent us from applying criteria to determine the rightful owner of a name in advance of the merge. To balance that shortcoming, we’re devoting a lot of customer service attention to resolving any name change abuse or name poaching.

After listening to your feedback, we’ve incorporated that feedback into an abuse resolution policy. The appeals process of this policy applies to cases where a lower level character claims the name of a more active, higher level character. The process also addresses cases where two active, high-level characters make claims to the same name.

Our Server Merge FAQ has been updated with more information, including what criteria we’ll be looking at to determine the rightful owner of a name and instructions for submitting your appeal.

About time.

So, looks fairly air tight, although I expect a HUGE backlog on name appeals.

StarCraft II Ghosts of the Past Cinematic Unleashed

Blizzard has unleashed the Ghosts of the Past cinematic teaser that will make every StarCraft II fan so excited they will be heading to the midnight launch with excitement begging for a copy.

The unlocked content at the Dominion page has reached its 100%, unveiling this cinematic.

The cinematic starts with the broken New Gettysburg billboard on the ground. Suddenly materializes the ghosts of the past as Jim Raynor remembers in his mind while drinking at the Cantina and looking at a photo of Sarah, the moment when Sarah Kerrigan is betrayed and left behind by Arcturus Mengsk. The zerg closes in and Sarah finally succumbs.

Matt Horner tries to make Jim Raynor understand the fate of Kerrigan wasn't his fault.

We see Arcturus Mengsk in the cinematic telling Jim Raynor to leave Tarsonis at once. Jim Raynor shows up in Mengsk's computer complaining his order to abandon Kerrigan to the Zerg.

Matt Horner reminds Raynor that their revolution is not about vengeance, but about Freedom. Matt invites Raynor to think about it, and to alert them when he's back to them to lead them.

Next, the cinematic shows us the moment Sarah Kerrigan looks into the sky, and gives up, letting her riffle fall to the ground as Mutalisks descend upon her like a locust swarm.

Raynor embraces his old Mar Sara Marshal badge on his hand, and begins a Rambo-like sequence wearing his guns and stuff.

Suddenly the radar systems pick up a massive Dominion Battlecruiser fleet closing in on them out of warp.

Raynor kicks in with the phrase, now our revolution is about to kick in into overdrive.

The Dominion and the Raynor's Raiders fight it to the bone. There are some random sequences like Raynor shooting the screen after a anti-Raynor speech by Mengsk.

Valerian Mengsk makes a appearance in the cinematic when Raynor stands face to face with him with a gun aiming Valerian's face. Valerian instead offers Jim Raynor what he most desires. An alliance between both men is incoming, which means the son will betray the father, as expected since the events which transpired in Christie Golden's novel StarCraft: The Dark Templar trilogy.

The cinematic is amazing. The Uncertain Future video is a thorough StarCraft II lore narration with a slideshow teaching you the basics of what you need to know before playing the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty single player this upcoming July 27th, 2010. Go grab your copy, kiddo! Check out the Starcraft II Dominion webpage.

Ghosts of the Past

Emperor Mengsk, we've finished analyzing the rogue transmission sent from criminal propagandist Michael Liberty to wanted terrorist Jim Raynor.

Oddly, the only information contained within was a brief message: "Run from your past, and it'll chase you down even faster."

The Light and How to Swing It: Holy Powah!

With the Light as his strength, Gregg Reece of The Light and How to Swing It faces down the demons of the Burning Legion, the undead of the Scourge, and soon, an entire flight of black dragons. Please send screenshots as well as any comments to gregg@wow.com.

Well, Chase decided against using “Holy Powah!” as the title for his paladin article on the subject for healadins, so I am selfishly going to grab it.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with paladins since the Twitter developer chat on Friday, we’re getting overhauled yet again and more deeply than ever before. Not only are things being simplified and condensed again like we saw at the beginning of Wrath, but we’re getting an additional resource system on top of mana. That’s right, additional and on top of mana, which means we’re going to be the second (or third?) mana-based class with an extra resource bar to watch.

This new system is called holy power, and no, it isn’t referring to a talent in the holy tree that adds crit. It is a mixture of combo points and runic power. This whole conversation is going to take a while (and a couple of blue quotes), so let’s continue after the break.

Star Trek Online adds more C-Store options and controversy [Update]

There’s a pattern that seems to repeat itself every time Cryptic adds new items to Star Trek Online‘s C-Store — or at least, a sequence of events wherein players are at first excited, then angry or annoyed when the prices are revealed. A bunch of new items have been added to the store: two additional costume slots (not on the website at the moment), two additional ship slots, and two additional bridge officer spots. The trouble arises with the handling of the upgrades, particularly with the new costume slots, as they’re counted on a per-character basis.

A similar upgrade is available in the store for Champions Online, for the exact same price — but it increases the number of costumes available on every character rather than just the character it’s purchased on. The per-character upgrades, coupled with a reduced importance for costumes in Star Trek Online, all help make many players feel a bit shorted by the price tag. Others are arguing that the add-on is only .50, an argument that’s gone on at length on the official forums. Controversy is nothing new to the game, but this much debate over a fairly minor item leads one to be a bit curious about what reception future items might find.

[Update: Cryptic has contacted us with news on upcoming changes to this system, “We’re going to change the way the costume slot purchases work so they become account-wide rather than per-character. And, of course, our customer service department will be able to assist anyone who purchased the upgrade multiple times to cover multiple characters.”]

[Thanks to Cap for the tip!]

Aionsource.com 2.0 Exclusive – The first look into Silentera Canyon

Aionsource.com 2.0 Exclusive – Silentera Canyon.

Good morning aionsourcers, I was recently fortunate enough to get an exclusive look into the beautiful world of Aion 2.0. As you’re all probably aware 2.0 is a future content patch for Aion and is penciled in for release sometime in September but we’re not content waiting around for that date so here’s a sneak peak into what you’ll be seeing!

DISCLAIMER: All observations made in this article are currently speculation based on what we were able to see, monster spawns/content/localization is all subject to change by NCWest. Take this all with a truckload or two of salt.

Hideous font colors aside lets get started shall we?

Posted Image
Silentera Canyon

Posted Image

Silentera Canyon is a new instance, and fairly significant since it gets an entire map dedicated to it, added with the 2.0 content patch. From what I’ve been able to gather by looking through the map it will be shared with Elyos and Asmodians having both factions being in the same world.

Posted Image

Entrance into Silentera is gained via Inggison for Elyos and Gelkmaros for Asmodians within their respective mountain temples. Needless to say the look of this temple is bound to change by the time it hits our shores but who cares about that – we want to see what’s inside!

Posted Image

Upon entering the instance it seems you will be transported into one of two spawnpoints. If you look at the map above you’ll notice two markers are in golden text (Silentera Westgate & Eastgate) – it would seem these are to be the spawnpoints for the instance.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Now the reason I assume these are to be the spawnpoints is simple, they’re on exact opposites of this symmetrical map and as you will see below – on a raised cliff completely blocking the enemy faction from advancing upon you.

A perfect position to plot your next advance for whatever the goal of this place may be. Hell there even seem to be some kisks hanging around although those may be there for other reasons – doesn’t make much sense for an instanced zone eh?

Posted Image

Once you muster up the willpower to glide down from your mountain fortress though an expansive and surprisingly varied instance awaits to be conquered.

The start of the instance has a funny knack of giving you one-way hills, once you jump down you’re not getting back up anytime soon. There’s also some sparkling green forestry to behold if you’re so inclined.

Posted Image

As you begin to wind your way into the middle of the instance however you may notice things getting a bit… darker. But fear not, there’s one last bloom-enriched scene to behold before you enter the murky depths of Silentra.

Posted Image

After fighting your way through hordes of scantily-clad female Oompa-Loompas you will come across the Jotun Brothers.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Quite fond of taking names and chewing gum these two will probably give you a fair run for your money. What the rewards are for slaying them however remains, sadly, unknown.

(Few more screenshots because… well they’re cool. Quiet you lot!)

Posted Image
Posted Image

Posted Image

My goodness that’s a lot of screenshots. Wanna hear my thoughts? Of course you don’t but too bad you’re reading them anyway.

Just judging by the map design, a perfectly symmetrical map with what is clearly two spawn points, it’s pretty apparent this is going to be a PvP or Group vs Group instance of some kind. Now what’s interesting is all paths have a suspicious tendency to lead very quickly to the final bosses in the middle.

There’s a lot of paths to the side that seem to be completely unnecessary and will be ignored… if this was a normal instance. Having said that I have some faith in NCSoft so it seems more likely there will be a certain set of criteria/objectives that need to be met in order to “win” this instance. Perhaps npcs will be spawned or a certain kind of monster in those seemingly irrelavent hallways.

Hell I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest to see some sort of point system similar to that in Dredgion. Well that and a lot more monsters than were shown here xD

Cataclysm Interface Part 1, Blue Posts

Cataclysm Interface Changes – Part 1
Cataclysm is still in early beta but a lot of interface changes are already implemented in the game. This post is the first of a 3-part preview of the interface changes in Cataclysm, today I will just stick to the general interface.

Spellbook
The Spellbook has been fully revamped, it looks nicer and has a couple of extra features.

  • Professions now have their own tab.
  • All spells and their training level are now displayed in the book.
  • Spells that you can train immediately are now highlighted.

Character Panel
The character panel now display all your stats on the right side, you can minimize tabs that you never use and check all your relevant stats quickly.

Talent Frame
The talent frame has been updated, all 3 trees are now on the same pages and masteries are now supported.

Trainers
Class and Profession trainers have a new interface, I’m not really sure it’s more useful than the old one but it’s nicer.

PvP Panel
The PvP Panel is still in early beta, it looks slightly nicer and the first signs of rated battlegrounds support are here.

Professions – Filters
Professions finally have built-in filters, nothing fancy but you will finally have a way to sort your huge list of recipes.

Minimap / Multi-tracking
Last but not least, the Minimap now allow you to track multiple things at once! Hurray!

PrintWarcraft – Original Art Posters Now Available
[blizzquote="Blizzard;http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml]PrintWarcraft.com now offers a variety of World of Warcraft artwork as high-quality poster prints. You can choose from favorites including art from past content updates, a Cataclysm piece featuring Deathwing, and more. Also available will be two brand-new posters never before seen –Troll Propaganda and Operation: Gnomeregan. These full size 24” x 36” posters are available at .95 and can be ordered now at PrintWarcraft.com[/blizzquote"]

World changes in Cataclysm – "Old" zones lost forever
If there’s one lesson I’ve been struggling with a lot recently, it’s that rejecting the nature of change can be damaging. Granted, the trials to which I’m referring aren’t related to video games, though they still apply universally. Sure, places will change, new questlines will replace many old ones, and Azeroth will never look quite the same again. There are, however, new places of beauty, new adventures to be had, and new struggles to overcome in the wake of change. A brand new player joining us in Cataclysm won’t know quite what it was like to level prior to Deathwing’s return, but they’ll get to experience all of the new wonders of the world, not to mention a design that’s become more definitive and polished over the years.

[…] Trust me, I understand the sentiment. We have no current plans though for preserving elsewhere the areas being changed. The story is evolving. To complement this, so is Azeroth as we know it. For current players, there will still be a good sense of familiarity in so many places within the old world. (Source)

Classes
Block Chance
Your block chance won’t be 5%. That’s too low. It will probably be something like 30%, but we haven’t figured out yet where to provide that 30%. It is likely to be a warrior / paladin only thing or even a Prot / Prot passive. (Source)

Max out the Mastery Bonus
Furthermore, there should be no way to max out mastery. It’s only just possible to max out things like crit and haste today because of A) overly generous talents, and B) ratings that were never designed for current item levels. We’ve already built the theoretical Deathwing gear, so we can make sure the numbers are more appropriate. (Source)

Hybrid/Multi-Tree Specs
Whenever a popular hybrid spec comes up, it’s usually because of some sneaky build that is broken for PvP by snaking down to pick up key talents in two trees. It’s not because the player really wants to play as say two specs — they are just cherry picking the talents. Since those builds almost always feel broken (as in breaking the rules) we don’t want to design around them. (Source)

Abilities in new Talent Trees
They aren’t all abilities. Most of the trees have say 4 or so active abilities in addition to the one at level 10. This is pretty consistent with live (an 11, 21, 31, 41 and 51 "clicky" ability).

The first couple of tiers have mostly simple talents. This is because you just don’t have a lot of abilities at level 10, rotations are simple, stuff tends to die fast, and we don’t want to overwhelm new players (including experienced players trying a new class). We also have to provide a lot of sub-spec potential in these trees.

Beyond that, things start to get more interesting and you see the talents that do procs or mechanic changes. There are more 1 point talents now, typically those that give raid buffs. (Source)

GCD Locked
We consider being GCD locked a bad thing. It doesn’t give you any room in your rotation to say click a potion or respond to a proc or do something out of the ordinary. It leads to tunnel vision. (Source)

Druid (Forums / 3.3.5 Talent Calculator / Cataclysm Talent Calculator)
Regrowth
We want Regrowth to feel like the flash heal. It will need to change a little to fit in that model (more up front and less hot perhaps) but it doesn’t also need to feel exactly like Flash Heal to do the job. (Source)

Paladin (Forums / 3.3.5 Talent Calculator)
Holy Paladins in Cataclysm
Holy paladins are changing in Cataclysm probably more than you realize. (Source)

Warrior (Forums / 3.3.5 Talent Calculator)
Mortal Strike as Fury/Protection
Correct. It is impossible for Fury or Protection to ever have Mortal Strike. (Source)

Dual-Wield
Only Fury warriors will dual-wield in Cataclysm. The Arms tree is completely built around using a two-handed weapon and the Prot tree is completely built around using a shield. There is no reason to dual-wield in those trees. (Source)

Critical Block
We haven’t done much with Critical Block as mastery yet because the level cap on the beta is so low and raid content isn’t available to publicly test yet. As we get closer we’ll put some better numbers on it. (Source)

Fan Art
A new fan art has been added to the official fan art gallery.

Character transfers on hold

Greetings all~

A spot of bad news, unfortunately.

Character transfers on hold

Greetings Daevas,

Due to technical complications occurring during the first execution of character transfers today, we have unfortunately found ourselves in a position where we need to further postpone the transfers until a solution is found. The issues did not appear in prior testing and have forced us to go back and perform careful investigations. We decided putting character transfers on hold would be a much more preferable option than having to face the risk of corrupting character information.

We will continue to do our outermost to ensure an as good character transfer experience as possible, and will announce further details as soon as they become available to us.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Dr4gon Column: Blizzard’s New Cash Cows

It was a while since we had a guest column here on StarCraft: IncGamers, but our long time member Dr4gon has stepped up to take a closer look at the monetary situation of Blizzard, inspired by some of the recent events regarding Activision Blizzard, Battle.net and payments.

Blizzard has become as big as it is today primarily through World of WarCraft, but this "cash cow" can hardly keep pumping money for ever.

It's by no means a negative piece by Dr4gon, but rather an interesting personal insight into what might or might not happen. The question is, what do YOU think about his theories?

Head over to Blizzard's New Cash Cows for the whole story.

Naxxramas in Cataclysm
We intend to keep Naxxramas hovering over its current home of Dragonblight. Moving the citadel back to the Plaguelands doesn’t really fit in with our plans for evolving the story in that area for Cataclysm.

[…] If we’re going to develop content where you travel in the past to take part in some major piece of Warcraft history, we’re going to try and make that content compelling and enhance the story of the expansion. Adding a level 60 version of Naxxramas to Caverns of Time doesn’t sound very compelling or relevant to Cataclysm… "Patch 4.1: Travel back in time to return to a high-end raid not applicable or relevant to the current end game, characters, or storyline!" 😉 (Source)

Past/Present Azeroth Phasing
We’re not phasing the entire old world into a past/present sort of scenario. The Cataclysm will bring about inescapable change for all inhabitants of Azeroth. We don’t plan to phase a portion of the playerbase into some past world of Azeroth where environments, quests, and creatures are unchanged. (Source)

Effective Health in Cataclysm
I’m not sure that serious tanks will ever gem dodge or parry at the expense of Stamina to any great degree. As long as dragons breathe, there will be elements of encounters where health is more useful than avoidance.

However, I think avoidance overall will still be more valuable in Cataclysm than it is on Live today when your healers risk running out of mana. The theoretical tank with a huge health pool and 0% avoidance should feel like a liability instead of the holy grail it is viewed as today.

We’re trying to shake [some] tanks out of the mentality that something is garbage unless it improves health or armor. That’s not the same as saying that tanks will value dodge and parry and view health and armor as garbage instead. (Source)

So it’s the dragons’ fault. Why can’t you give us something we can stack and get on gear which will reduce magical damage taken? Perhaps a "mitigation rating" which will reduce all damage taken, like resilience does in PvP, though at a rate less than armor or avoidance reduces physical damage.
Couple of reasons. One, every boss (well, with a couple of weird exceptions) does physical damage, but there are plenty of bosses that do only physical damage. Second, we want the dragon breathing to be a scary moment that requires you and the healers to consider using your cooldowns. I realize the strategy of a tank is to try and do whatever you can to make those moments not scary, but as soon as you accomplish that, then the fights become a lot less exciting. Roller coasters that move slowly might feel more safe, but they’re not as much fun. We have to nail that sometimes narrow line between letting you prepare for a fight without minimizing the danger (assuming its appropriate for your level of progression, etc.) (Source)

Aion Server Downtime: Server Merge Schedule

Alright kids server merge day is finally here!

On that note NCWest has been so kind as to provide something of a schedule for the entire affair, albeit posting it on their site followed by taking said site down is kinda counter-intuitive but hey whatever ;p (Could have edited the maintenance message with the times though guys, just a thought! Although I did find them with google… on a site selling kinah =/)

Aion Server Downtime: Server Merge Schedule

Greetings Daevas,

We’re always working hard to make Aion the best game experience it can be. As you’ve probably heard, we’re merging servers to maintain a thriving game world for everyone. On Wednesday, July 14, we will merge the Aion servers in North America and Europe. We’ve scheduled the work to ensure that players around the world can get back in the game as quickly as possible, and to minimize the downtime during periods that are most popular.

Have questions? We understand. To make this process as simple and clear as possible, we have created a Server Merge FAQ. Here are more details.

The overall process should take about 13 hours for servers in each time zone. It will require offline maintenance for the Aion game servers, website, and forums. This means that you will not be able to play Aion, access the Aion website, or access the Aion forums during this time. In addition, the forums will require additional maintenance for about three hours after each game server is back up and running. During this time, you can play Aion, but you will not be able to access the forums. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The exact schedule is as follows.

North America
The North American servers will undergo maintenance starting at 2:00 a.m. PST on Wednesday, July 14. They should be back online at about 3:00 p.m. PST on July 14. (time zone assistant)

European Schedule:
The European servers will begin maintenance at 05:00 (GMT +1) on Wednesday, July 14. They should be back online at about 18:00 (GMT +1) on July 14. (time zone assistant)

What does this mean for me?

After the merge, you’ll probably notice that your character’s name now has a server abbreviation tag attached to it. So check out your revised name. If it looks good, you don’t need to do anything else. But just in case, we’ll place a Character Name Change ticket in your inventory. If you’d like to change your name, just right-click the ticket and enter your desired name as indicated.

We expect this process to go smoothly, but we are here for you if something looks amiss. If you try to change your name and it’s not available, we want to help. If you feel that your character name has been intentionally grabbed by someone else, you can submit a name change appeal before July 28th with the required information. We will have support staff standing by to review each request as it comes in.

You’ll probably have questions and want to know what’s going on tomorrow. No problem! Even though our website and forums will be offline, we will be doing our best to keep you updated through the Aion Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Thanks again for your patience during this process. We’ll see you on the other side!

-The Aion Community Team

Posted Image

In closely related news I’ll be merging our server forums now to reflect the changes. In accordance with orders from my charming and good looking boss posts from forums being merged will go into their new parent forum, all post history will remain.

There may be some redundant stickies for a day or so, you’re all more than welcome to report them :D

Thanks,

Starcraft2 activation FAQ

Blizzard community manager Lylirra has answered several question regarding the puzzling activation confusion in different region. It seems like there is no way you can buy a copy of the game and use the key to activate and log on to another region. Isn’t it contradict the earlier reply by another Blizzard employee? My guess is since Europe has one united server, it doesn’t really matter what language client you use. As long as the client points to the right server, you should be able to log on. Unfortunately, for all other regions in the world, you will only be able to activate the default language client. Of course, there are some other ways that involving alter the client…but we are not going to discuss it here.

Blizzard Quote:
Will there be unique codes for shipped games vs digital games?

Yes, both game client types (digital and physical) possess unique game activation methods.

If a player purchases the digital game client, the player will not receive a copy of the game activation key. Instead, the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license will be added to the purchasing Battle.net account automatically. This is how World of Warcraft digital game clients function, as well.

If a player purchases the physical game client, the player will need to manually add the game activation key included in the boxed set to his or her Battle.net account. By adding the game activation key, the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license will be added to the Battle.net account.

What exactly is region specific for activation?

Game clients that are downloaded online or installed from the physical box set will only connect to the region for which they’re made. Therefore, in order for a player to log in and begin playing, both the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license and the installed game client must be from the same region. If the game license and the game client don’t match, the player will be unable to login.

For this reason, we do not recommend using the early digital download option if you’re also purchasing the physical game client, as the risk of ending up with a game client that doesn’t match your game license is much higher. Please also note that the time saved by unlocking and installing the digital download is negligible when compared to the time required to install the game using the physical DVD.

Will I be able to use my shipped SC2 activation code on the digital installer?

Once the game activation key is added to your Battle.net account and your game license is active, the option to download the client online will become available.

Please keep in mind, though, that if you try to download the game client early via the digital download option, you will want to make sure that the region of the game client you’re downloading matches the region of the game license that will be shipped to you later on. If your game license region doesn’t match the downloaded client’s region, you will not be able to login.

To clarify further, if a player purchased the North American version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty from a store on July 27, he or she would need to ensure that the digital game client downloaded is also from the appropriate region (in this example, from North America). Otherwise, that player would be unable to login until the North American game client is installed.

Are there any differences between a physical copy of the game and a digital downlaod?

I saw this question elsewhere, and thought it was worth answering here.

There are no differences in what each version of the game provides. All the files are exactly the same, but you obviously don’t get the box, DVD, or manual.

Is the activation code tied to its game client region, or is it just the game client that is region specific?, and if so, which is the key for matching it with your Battle.net account region?

Game activation keys, game licenses, and game clients are all region-specific. As noted above, if your game license and installed game client regions don’t match, you won’t be able to login.

If the country associated with your Battle.net account (viewable in Battle.net Account Management: https://www.battle.net/account) is accurate, you should be directed to the correct regional download when visiting this page: http://beta-us.battle.net/en/info/digital-purchase

If you have already purchased a physical copy of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, but still wish to download early, you will need to make sure that the regional download matches the region for the physical game you purchased.

Breakfast Topic: The feral bond

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW.com.

There’s obviously a certain understanding based on shared experience among the various WoW races, classes and specs, no matter what your faction. When you meet, even if you can’t understand each other in chat, you might tip your hat, wave or do some other emote that signifies your recognition of a fellow traveler who is just like you were, are or will be. True, sometimes it’s more of a rivalry, with the occasional threat, challenge or insult. But just as often (if not more so), there is flirting, cheers and exchanging of baby spice and hugs.

I think this is even more true for druids and particularly feral druids. My main is an Alliance bear/cat, and often when I bump into another druid while going about my business, we start dancing or roaring at each other, or some other emote/interaction occurs that doesn’t normally happen with every passing stranger (if it did, we’d never get anything done, I guess). The resulting hijinks are often quite comical, but even more so if we are both in an animal form.

This seems to happen just as much when I meet Hordies as anyone else. Maybe not in a battleground (probably a good thing), but when I see another feral in passing, it seems like we become alert to each other’s presence and make a quick little event out of it, then go on our way. The other races and classes are there, sure, and they certainly command my awareness and interaction as the case may be. But first and foremost, I’m checking out the other ferals. It seems there’s something about ferals that makes us want to interact, be it a playful romp, chase or even the occasional threatening/rude gesture to show who’s boss or who doesn’t want to be messed with. It makes me wonder if this is how a dog feels in the park.

Aion’s “Dash of the Daevas” PvP event!

Greetings Daevas,

Over the next few weeks we have several exciting in-game and out of game happenings planned.

Dash of the Daevas will kick things off with a bang, starting just after the servers come up on the 14th July. You’ll be pitted against friends and enemies alike, in a race to achieve specially selected server ‘firsts’. There probably isn’t any significant need to further explain what properties constitute a ‘first’, besides mentioning the very fundamental fact of it denoting the first time something is accomplished!

After much haggling we’ve managed to convince Ettanyerk of the Black Cloud Traders to part with some in-game goodies to give away as rewards. The achievements work either on a per Faction, Legion or Group basis, and are as follow (including their reward):

First Divine Fortress Capture
Faction reward: 5 Major Crowns per player
Legion reward: Custom Armor Skins

First Faction to capture all Fortresses in the Lower Abyss
Faction reward: 1 Major Crown per player

First Faction to capture all Fortresses in the Upper Abyss
Faction reward: 3 Major Crowns per player

First Group to best Tahabata Pyrelord
Reward: Premium Weapon Skins

First Group to defeat Unstable Triroan
Groupreward: 5 Black Dyes per player

First Group to defeat Lord Lannok
Group reward: 5 White Dyes per player

First Group to defeat Nochsana General
Group reward: 5 Black Dyes per player

First Menotios the Destroyer kill
Faction reward: 5 Major Crowns per player
Legion reward: 5 Major Crowns per player

(There are several undisclosed achievements to keep you on your toes in addition to the above)

To qualify for the rewards, you must be the first Faction, Legion or Group to achieve these landmarks. But due to the nature of the agreement established with Ettanyerk, he wants results within two weeks.

At the end of those two weeks we’ll announce the winners, and they will at this time receive their rewards via the in game mail system, courtesy of Ettanyerk’s cousin, Kaknyerk of the United Postal Services Association of Atreia.

Good luck and happy hunting, Daevas.

Did you see what I saw? Custom armor skin for the winning legion!!! :vampire: Holy shizzfactor!!!

Now of course I’m secretly hoping for a full bodied playboy bunny suit to match my ears, but I’d happily settle for all the dye and crowns on offer.

Enjoy

Your Life for the Hive? Play Draco, Free Browser MMORPG!

While you wait for the first installment of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, why don’t you play Draco, a browser-based MMORPG by Evolution Vault? To play it all you need is your browser; no downloads are necessary. And the game is completely FREE! Start your journey to the stars in an epic quest of galactic conquest with the Zerg… pardon, the Avatar. I just can’t hope it… they look like the Zerg.

The story of the game is that the Avatar has awakened and the Prime Evils ascended into space (how original!), searching for fresh blood. Highly efficient killers with the sole purpose of consuming all living, “the Avatars are a symbiotic species which assimilated millions of hosts throughout the galaxy, in order to thrive and be able to modify their surroundings.

These aliens have some cool structures which, apparently, stayed buried deep underground for centuries, waiting to be triggered by the evolution of intelligent life. The game play itself is fairly straightforward if you’ve ever played any of the more traditional browser games, such as Travian. Regardless, I enjoyed the game very much and I highly recommend it. It’s a fun browser MMORPG to play in your spare time, when you want to relax a few minutes.
