We’ve made some changes to the login server, however these changes didn’t quite stick. You will not be able to login without doing the following:
1. Navigate to the following folder in your beta install. ~\Data\enUS** 2. Open up your realmlist.wtf file with a text editing document. 3. Change the "set portal public-beta" line to "set portal public-test" 4. Save this change.
At this point you should be able to login normally.
**This folder will differ depending on which language you installed WoW Beta with. For example if you have a German install, the folder will be deDE.
If you still have issues with logging in please post here!
Thanks guys and sorry for the inconvenience.

I thought it was high time we did a little round up to see what’s going on around the place, as well as strike up a campfire conversation or two with folks who are out there getting amongst the Aion action.
It’s been a hell of a few weeks, what with 1.9 going live a mere six weeks ago, server merges today, the Dash of the Daeva’s competition, and player transfer service rolling out in the next few days . I know the NCsofties (as I like to call them) have been running ragged, especially in response to the overwhelming feedback in regards to character name conflicts.
On the Source side of campfire, it’s been a bit like working in a bouncy castle. A few people land then the poor bugger on the other corner goes flying ten feet in the air. Hell after merging the server forums at the last minute, I think our Cynic is running on little more than sugar and oxygen at this point. There certainly hasn’t been a lot of sleep involved! *hugs*
Before we all jump on the next band wagon (That’s right you! Get your foot off that sodding wagon!) I figure it’s a good time to take stock of where we are. Like a wise person once said, there’s a mountain ahead but before we climb it, let’s not forget to look at how far we’ve come.
What’s going on in Aion?
Hrm, where to begin after the last few weeks of Aion madness…
1.9 Patch – 2 June 2010
I think the biggest thing server side that’s hit our screens since the launch back in September 2009 is the release of the Aion 1.9 patch on 2 June 2010. We first started hearing about 1.9 in a big way back in February, followed by secret meeting notes and translated Korean patch notes scattered about in March, and lastly a whole lot of hype in April/May as we drew closer to release.
It’s almost hard to believe it’s been only six weeks since the 1.9 patch rolled out the red carpet on the live Aion servers. It seems like longer right? I seem to recall it was tough on NA/EU folks waiting three months after the juicy bits were released. We knew the Korean gamers already had their paws on it and we wanted the precious for ourselves…err…I mean the patch.
In the beginning, I think a few people weren’t convinced that 1.9 was exactly what it said on the tin. The patch was hailed by NCsoft to be a mega response to player requested improvements. After experiencing the full patch and discovering things like being able to modify Miragent/Fenris armor, new group finding window, trade broker calculator options, new morphs, unbundling items, costumes and Flux brokers…well, it spoke for itself really. I for one was a happy camper!
If you missed out on the details of the 1.9 patch, you can catch up on the complete patch notes, and a Q&A from Aion’s producer, Chris “Kinslon” Hager.
Divine Fortress rofl-stomped
After the 1.9 update, one of the biggest things I noticed on each server was the sudden surge of planning among server factions to capture Divine Fortress. Before the patch, legions seemed content to steer clear of this fortress, tossing it firmly into the “too hard” basket.
It was a shame seeing such a prestigious fortress never changing colour. The only successful attempt in the whole NA/EU set under “old school” rules was made by the players of the old Suthran [FR] server. I think it’s safe to say they’ll be keeping the title forevermore as the only players to have done it, because the rules have now changed. The goal posts are wider, the keep walls are lower, and someone made off with one of the deities!
Before the end of June, we saw the first five Divine fortress captures complete, marking the beginning of a rapidly changing Abyss. My own legion was the sixth to tag our name to Divine on Gorgos (gogo tG!). I can honestly say I haven’t had that much fun in an MMO before. The cheer that went up on our VoIP nearly blew my speakers, and I’m sure my neighbours thought I was having a party, but hell it was great fun!
Server Merges – 14 July 2010
I think it’s safe to say this has been a hot topic, of molten lava proportions, over the past week.
For those of you out of the loop, we first caught sight of confirmed server merge plans on 24 June. The initial announcement talked of NA/EU merging 32 servers down to 13 on June 8th, but this was later pushed back to the 14th. Precise details can be found in the Server Merge FAQ.
After overwhelming feedback from the community on the merges (31 page thread anyone?), NCsoft were able to respond with firm plans to offer an appeal process to resolve player name conflicts (thank god!). I know a huge number of players were relieved by this, including myself. It might all be pixels at the end of the day, but for many players maintaining an identity is an important aspect of being motivated to continue being part of an online community.
Thank you to everyone at NCwest for taking us all seriously and pushing for the name conflict issue to be resolved before the merge. In particular, thanks to Ayase for stepping in so regularly on Aion Source, despite the brutal reception you received at times. I don’t envy the job you guys do and I’m stunned at what you have to endure at times.
On a light hearted note, thank you to the person who PM’d me suggesting I should change….certain people’s names to….TamatQQ and AyaseMM in retaliation if it all went to pot! Needless to say, I won’t be doing that, but the idea did make me laugh my socks off.
To round off the server merges on a more positive note, and no doubt to encourage players to work together in their new found server environment, the Dash of the Daeva’s event was announced yesterday. PvP players won’t want to miss out on this one!
Player Transfers – 15 July 2010
Yes, you read correctly! Barely moments after the dust settles on server merges, the flood gates will open to free server transfers up until 25 August 2010. We’re told that during this time you will be able to transfer as many characters to new homes as you like, without paying a transfer fee.
Now I’ve spoken to a few unknowing players on servers across NA and EU tonight (bwuhahaha secret agent Bunny!) and it’s looking like there is some general unrest after the merges. A few people are feeling disoriented and the LFG channel is rampant with conversations that can only be described as “boys waving about their e-peen” to impress newcomers.
This is bound to happen, and the dust will settle once people/legions get to know each other, so personally I would caution anyone against making a hasty decision to use the free transfer service straight away. The term jumping out of the fry pan into the fire comes to mind lol.
Specific details on how to transfer will no doubt be available from the NCsofties shortly, so stay tuned.
Aion Patch 2.0 Assault on Balaurea – 7 September 2010
I don’t think I could sum up the amount of content in the next Aion patch, entitled Assault on Balaurea, at least not in a mere couple of paragraphs. In a word, this patch is going to be epic and we’ve been told for some time now that we’ll see it in the Fall of this year. No, not soon…Fall!
Now, finally thank Aion, we have a confirmed release date for NA/EU of 7 September 2010!!
If you missed the preview, be sure to check it out. Also, if you missed the initial patch notes, those are definitely worth a read but be warned they are very looooong (hey, it can’t be a bad thing!). Just for starters the pets look absolutely adorable, but I can’t friggen wait to be able to form Alliance Associations during sieges.
What’s going on in Aion Source?
The Balaur Who Shagged Me?
In case you missed it, a freelance MMO writer was nice enough to grace us with a little ditty from his creative side a couple of weeks ago. I’m intrigued beyond words and can’t wait to see what he comes up with next time. Thanks very much again to Astri for sharing this with us!
Ode to BennyLava
Waitwut? Seriously…wut? Our Snoozle was feeling musical the other day and decided to compose a little sonnet to the tune of Robert Mackenzie. I don’t know what to think really…
Definitely the biggest
What started as an innocent “are you bored at work” thread in the old Lumiel server section has become something of a monster on the forum, growing to a massive 765 pages. Now relocated to the Israphel [East] server section, the monster continues to grow…and I can’t work out why lol.
Incoming Summer Aion competition
You heard it here first! We’re looking at cooking up something fun over the Summer and we’re open to player suggested ideas for the next big competition. We have loads of swag to give away, so if you have an idea you’d like to share please don’t hesitate to drop me a PM over the next week or so.
Moderators and Content Writers wanted!
We’re currently looking for new moderators and content writers to get amongst the action with us, particularly now that things are steaming up in Aion. If you think you possess the required predisposition (no we don’t all wear tin foil hats…well not anymore…Cynic confiscated them) then feel free to drop myself or Cynic a PM telling us a little about yourself and how you see yourself contributing to the team.
Other fun Aion stuff
I’m always on the lookout for fun tools and gadgets, so I thought I’d share a few of the ones that caught my eye lately:
A little while ago Blizzard revealed what European cities would be hosting official midnight launch events on July 27 for the release of StarCraft II. Now the developer has finally revealed the location for the official North American launch event for the game. It will be held at Fry’s Electronics at Fountain Valley, CA on the evening of July 26.
Folks lucky enough to live near that location will be able to meet and greet some of the development team behind the long awaited sci-fi RTS sequel. Look for live StarCraft II matches, live music, giveaways and more at the event. If you can’t show up for the “official” US launch, a number of retailers including GameStop, Best Buy and WalMart plan to open their doors at midnight on July 27 to sell the first copies of the game.

Character transfers will occur during our weekly maintenance periods. Some of you may have both an Asmodian and Elyos characters on the same server as a result of the merge. You will need to use the character transfer service to resolve this race conflict before we re-enable race restrictions on all servers. Others may be interested in trying another server.
We have highlighted some key features you need to be aware of to ensure that a character transfer runs smoothly. Please check the criteria before you use the character transfer process. Your transfer process will fail if you do not meet the eligibility requirements.
The character you wish to transfer must be level 2 or higher.
After you transfer a character, you cannot transfer the same character again until 1 full day has
elapsed.
You cannot transfer a character to a server that already houses a character of the opposing race.
You cannot transfer a character that is a member of a Legion. You must leave the Legion before you initiate the transfer process.
Items in your account warehouse will not be transferred. You will need to move them into your character
inventory or warehouse before initiating the transfer process.
You must remove all items from the Auction House broker before you will be able to initiate a character
transfer.
You cannot transfer a character that has more than 214,100 Abyss points.
You cannot transfer a character that has more than 200,000,000 Kinah.
There are specific flux-morphing recipes that cannot be transferred.
Please visit our Character Transfer information page for a list of these items.
After merges there are sure to be a fair few people with race conflicts. Here’s some incentive to get them sorted!
Fight on the Right Side
During the free character move period (from July 15, 2010 to August 25, 2010), your characters can score some extra loot by making sure they’re fighting on the right side. Now that the servers have been merged, please make sure that you have characters of only one race—either Elyos or Asmodian—on each of the servers. If you do, you are golden. If not, sign up quickly for free character moves to transfer some of your characters so that you have only one race on a server.
We’ll be giving out in-game items during the free move period to accounts that have no race conflicts. The quicker you have only one race on each server you play on, the more free loot you get!
After August 26, we will be restricting accounts that still have race conflicts. You will then have to choose a primary race for each server you play on. Once you’ve selected a primary race, characters of the opposing race on that server will be unplayable until transferred to a server without a race conflict.
So what do you have to lose? Take advantage of the free character transfer period and get some cool goodies in the process by fighting on the right side!
Good news! Time to get your characters moved so there is only one race on your server.
I wonder if NCSoft are considering this an ‘event’…?
Hey guys! Big news today so get your dinner plates ready
As I’m sure you’ve gathered from the thread title NCSoft has been happy to announce the full release of Aion 2.0: Assault on Balaurea. Still I wont keep you from it so enjoy!
Assault on Balaurea Release Date
Aion Players in North America and Europe can begin exploring the world far beyond the traditional territories of Asmodae and Elysea starting September 7.

Needless to say this is big news and we’re extremely excited to hear yet another solid release date! Even if it gets pushed back I know I’m looking forward to flying through those air tubes
Be sure to check out the Balaurea 2.0 and keep an eye on the news – Aionsource will be doing content previews over the next few weeks leading up to 2.0!!
Another weekend is here and with it comes the weekly Eye on Community…
Eye on Community 16.07.2010
Greetings Daevas,
It’s been a long week here at NCsoft with the server merges, character transfers, final preparations for San Diego Comic Con, and our big Aion®: Assault on Balaurea™ announcement to name a few. Miss something? No worries! We’re taking another look at a couple topics you might have overlooked.
Aion: Assault on Balaurea Announcement
All Aion players in North America and Europe can begin exploring the world far beyond the territories of Asmodae and Elysea starting September 7, 2010.
When the servers came back online after the server merge, all Daevas were given a set of goals to accomplish for a chance to win amazing in-game prizes. Many of these have already been completed, yet still more remain to be discovered!
Our Character Transfer account service has opened and character moves will be free for a limited time. We will be transferring characters that sign up for this service every Wednesday during scheduled maintenance. Sign up today!
After the server merges we have come to a time of transition. During this time, we encourage you to embrace this transition as a chance to strengthen your server’s community. It is easy to fall into the trap of excluding or rejecting players or Legions because they weren’t here previously on this server and “don’t know how we do things.” Just as we are resetting the Abyss forts, this is a chance to reset, regroup, reorganize, and strengthen your community. We encourage you to reach out, be friendly, and have fun with your new server-mates. Open your mind to new, positive possibilities.
Question of the Week
Qorth of New Zikel asks:
“With the ability to transfer off servers, as well as the ongoing Dash of the Daevas event, will those who successfully completed one of the boss kills for Dash of the Daevas be able to receive their reward if they transfer to another server before the two weeks end?”
Great question, Qorth!
We have received a lot of feedback on the event and have actually implemented a couple of tweaks.
The winners of all achievements during the Dash of the Daevas will be announced in two different batches. Due to your quick progress, we will first announce all named mob firsts next week, before the first set of character transfers are put in motion. If you are eligible for a prize in any of those categories, you should therefore receive it before the transfer is executed.
Faction wide rewards, with the exception of Menotios, will not be announced until the end of the initially specified two-week period. This means that any character that moves away from a server in which he or she participated in achieving an accomplishment will not get the reward.
In light of a successful server merge, we have decided to award a runners-up prize for all race rewards to the race that doesn’t make it all the way to achieving a first.

The rules for this campaign are: no ERP (Erotic RolePlay) and no vampires (though death knights are welcome). Everyone is invited to participate. Assume that to get into the guild, you at least pretended to be in full use of your faculties and are willing to fight for the cause. You are all welcome to join us here in the comments and those who wish to play with us in-game should friend Peenk and ask for an invite on Shadow Council (US-RP-A).
Hello! Peenk Sparklebolt here. In order to efficiently lead tonight’s Refugee Party, the Operation Gnomeregan engineers have provided me with this gadget thingee. I’m not sure how it works, but it seems that people outside of our guild can actually hear me and see what we are doing tonight. Fascinating. I will be dismantling it to see how it works after this shindig is over.
Anyway, you can hear and see what is happening on my gadget thingee right now, or you can join us at the Refugee Party in Coldridge Pass. But hurry! We’re starting immediately.
Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting feral/restoration druids and those who group with them.
For a long time, I’ve been kicking an article around on the art of the 5-man pull. Knowing how and when to pull is arguably the foundation of a smooth dungeon run, and it’s certainly among the first skills that any tank needs to develop. While a not-insignificant portion of one’s ability to pull cleanly only arrives courtesy of experience with a wide variety of players, there are a few rules that approach universal status. Moreover, I expect them to be equally useful when I hit the new Cataclysm dungeons and have to figure out how to tank for a group safely in a new environment with new mobs.
The more I wrote on pulling, the more I realized that the subject can be divided into two very distinct categories: what happens before you pull, and what happens while you’re pulling. This week’s column addresses the former. Everything I am about to tell you in this column is something that you, as an experienced tank, will eventually do in the space of a second without even realizing you’re doing it.
Welcome to Lichborne, your weekly source for news, guides, tips and opinions on the death knight class.
While paladins got some of the biggest bombshells in last week’s big developer Twitter chat, there was still quite a bit of juicy information for death knights. Reading between the lines, it’s pretty obvious we’re getting some major tree revamps, especially in the frost tree, what with On a Pale Horse being added and Runic Empowerment being made baseline. The answers also bought some interesting insights into some of the various decisions being made as our class takes shape in Cataclysm. A few of the answers definitely merit some deeper discussion, so let’s get to it.
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Michael Gray will be your host today.
Great news, everyone! As you all know, your intrepid WoW.com staff is constantly striving to improve the level of service we bring you. We are devoted to bringing you the very last in cutting edge video content. As such, we are delighted to present the above video as our early-stage beta. Exciting, isn’t it? Be sure to leave your feedback on our beta progress.
I understand Imma Sock may be the worst ImmaBe cover ever performed, but it was fun.
Shizzle asked:
“Has there been a definitive list compiled detailing which pre-Cataclysm achievements will be achieveable once the expansion hits and which ones will move into the realm of Feats of Strength?”
No, not at all. It’s probable that not even Blizzard truly knows that for certain yet. This kind of thing is a pretty big deal, since content changes will happen even after the expansion releases. It’s just way too early to even guess.
The hardware comes with powerful StarCraft 2 specific driver features that allow the peripherals to act as indicators for actual game events as well as show current player APM levels through multiple multi-color lights.
Blizzard has released what will probably end up being the last StarCraft 2 Beta Patch ever – patch 18. With no drastic adjustments, containing only minor bug fixes, it seems the development team is content with StarCraft 2′s current gameplay state and race balance.

We would like to thank everyone who has participated in the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test. You’ve done an admirable job of testing, and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback you provided during this critical phase of development. It’s been a lot of fun; however, all good things must come to an end.
In preparation for the launch of the game on Tuesday, July 27, the beta servers will be brought offline by Monday, July 19. At that time, all beta accounts and character information will be reset and the ability to create forum posts and comments on the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty website will be unavailable until launch. In the meantime, we still encourage everyone to stay tuned to the website for exciting news and updates regarding the upcoming release.
Thank you again for your participation, and we’ll see you soon on Battle.net!
Enjoy the last hours of beta play, and brace for the full release on July 27!
Press Release
San Francisco, CA July 19, 2010 Curse, Inc. announced today the purchase of the #1 World of Warcraft news site, MMO-Champion.com. The site was bought from Major League Gaming for an undisclosed amount.
MMO-Champion is a natural fit for Curse which already possesses the largest repository of add-ons available for MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games such as World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online and Runes of Magic as well as extremely popular forums for Runescape, Aion and Final Fantasy XIV. The World of Warcraft news site attracts 7 million unique visitors and more than 80 million page views per month (Google Analytics WW, June 2010). The combination makes Curse the #1 MMO destination online.
The acquisition of MMO-Champion markedly sets Curse apart from the competition, said Hubert Thieblot, CEO and Founder. Not only does the addition solidify Curse as the largest MMO destination on the web, but it plays a central role in delivering a complete Curse MMO solution. Curse is now the ultimate resource for MMO news, forums, databases, and add-ons.
Gamers and advertisers alike will benefit greatly from MMO-Champions purchase by Curse. In the next few months, visitors can expect an updated page design and improved user experience. To insure the sites strong content offering will not be compromised, Fabien Bonte, the sites founder and administrator, will be joining the Curse staff as a full-time employee. Advertisers can take advantage of Curses extended reach into the core MMO market, making MMO gamers easier to connect with than ever. For more information about Curse and MMO-Champion, please visit www.curse.com.
Boubouille’s word (That’s me!)
NEW OWNERS! WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!
No, seriously. This change will hardly affect the users, we will see a lot of improvements on the site over the next few months (not immediately, we still have to move to new servers) and a lot of people will be working hard to make MMO-Champion a wonderful place filled with love and gnomes. Our first goal is obviously to stabilize the current site and fix all the minor bugs you’ve been experiencing since the migration, then we’ll work on the big stuff and eventually come up with a shiny new design and more features.
I would also like to thank Major League Gaming for the 3 years I spent with them. They’re the one who gave me a chance to bring MMO-Champion to a much higher level and even if it isn’t obvious to everyone, the site probably wouldn’t exist today without them. MLG’s management and tech teams went through a lot of efforts to keep the site alive during its ridiculously fast growth, we’re here today because of them. Curse and Major League Gaming will definitely keep working together in the future and great things will come out of this partnership.
MMO-Champion has been around for 3 years, 4 months, and 19 days. Let’s see how much further we can go.
Besides the already published Starcraft 2 changes for Patch 16 on Battle.Net forums, there are few several changes not mentioned in the patch notes, such as:
For Terran:
– Hellions now have a small Cooldown on their rate of fire.
– Ghost ability to not attack a nearby enemy unit has been changed to a Toggle ability (useful when cloaked).
For Zerg:
– Roaches can no longer move under the Sentry Force Fields while burrowed. Really smart change!
– All units inside a Nydus Network can now be seen, which makes unloading of specific units easy.
For Protoss:
– Stalkers can no longer Blink up ramps without previous vision; also, cannot blink across islands.
– Another change: upgrading a Warpgate into a Gateway takes 10 seconds up from 3.
General Changes:
– A worth mentioning change: various critters now wander the map.
– Attack cooldown info is now listed in the weapon/ability’s Tooltip.
– Xel’naga towers now show up on the Mini-Map as eyes.
These were the latest Starcraft 2 changes. Stay tuned for more!
