The Hyperion serves as the new mission briefing UI of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty once you complete the Zero Hour mission. There are four rooms in the Hyperion battlecruiser which you can explore as Jim Raynor: The Cantina, the Bridge, the Armory and the Lab Room.
Today we will feature the content of the Lab Room, which allows players to upgrade their forces with extra bonuses to their defensive structures or new units otherwise inaccessible such as the Predator, the Science Vessel, and the Raven.
The missions after the Zero Hour map will give you special optional quests from the Lab doctor Stetmann to gather Protoss relics or Zerg specimens which he will use to offer the Raynor's Raiders a beef up on defensive and offensive structures and weaponry. Stetmann mimics elements of the Protoss and the Zerg with each advanced specimen.
For example, you may add +150 health to all bunkers by using the exoskeleton carapace of a Zerg unit to prolong the Bunker's survivability. Or you can obtain vespene gas using protoss technology: teleportation is used to transport vespene gas directly into the Command Center without the need of any SCVs to carry the canisters. This upgrade allows you to use all your SCVs into mining. The opposite upgrade allows you to train to SCVs at once.
The Research system is a worthwhile feature that gives an extra incentive to players to manage forces to explore, defeat and defend within harsh situations that one way or another may teach newcomers the art of Starcraft multiplayer.
