Basically, get 2 gathering proffesions, Skinning and Minings pretty good and quest like hell. Do instances when you can, especially ones full of quests, grab everything that drops from a mob, it can be worth every penny. Try to get some large slot bags from a guildie or cheap, always look for bargains. On the AH only buy what you need, every other time rely on drops and quest rewards. Even if they are not as good, they'll do the job, don't use the Spirit Healer unless you have no choice, and by no choice I mean that if you spawn, you die, enemy players do not count, just log for them and come back on in a few mins. Sell everything you don't need that will be worth paying some decent profit. Keep this up and when at 40 do SM runs especially when you do all parts, if you can solo Graveyard solo it, the drops can be often there and if you sell them all, a nice tidy profit is waiting for you, when you have that mount, I'd say stick to those proffesions until 60, unless you managed to find an epic or something that sold for quite a lot. But stick to these guidelines still and that epic at 60 could be just as easy.

farming the SM graveyard is easy since all the mobs have like a 10 min respawn time. you can easily make 5g/hour from just the silver they drop. about 20g/hour from the vendor crap, and a grand total of 50g/hour when all ur greens finally sell

Maybe you don't NEED the auction house from 1-20, but it certainly helps. There are plenty of bargains for low level equipment in the Auction house, so buying your equipment there shouldnt be a problem. Most of the low level stuff doesn't cost more than 15s, and the vast majority of items have low starting bids, so if you're patient you can get it for pretty cheap. Since you can start your professions early anyways, you'll want to spend a lot of time at the auction house already putting up your trade goods, so you should be able to afford yourself at least SOMETHING. Better equipment leads to faster kills (or less dying), which in turn leads to faster xp. And if you're farming, faster money. Bottom line, you don't have to deck yourself out in a whole new outfit and brand new weapons, but one or two things can go a long way, especially at the earlier levels.

1-40 only buy like 5 things at AH, only if you really need it.

467g at level 30 is impossible unless he's been level 30 for a few months, or he took a nice visit over to 3bay.
About "buying epics cheap then selling them"...
I know more people who have lost money, then made money doing this. Reselling isnt a good way to make money for a noob, especailly cause he doesnt know what he can get for it. Just because the item is purple and costs 10g, doesnt mean you can automaticly resell it for 100. Reselling items is the WORST way for a novice to make money. To make money doing this, you will need to know the market. You wont know the market after 40 levels of playing.
What item did you resell at level 36 that would let you make a 100g profit?
What item did you resell the second time?
I don't see how its true that you resold two items for 100g profit at level 36. Don't tell me you saw a BoE level 50+ purple that you bought for 400g and resold for 500, I will just accuse you of 3baying the 400g in the first place.
If your server is old, faming elemental fires and elemental earths off the elementals in Arathi Highlands is good money. The fires sell for 1g each on a MC capable server, and drop id say about a 15-20% chance. So if you're leveling on an old server, that's a great way to make money.

I agree. 1-20 you should be buying at most, 3-5 things total. Since the things you buy will be upgraded in a matter of hours, its not worth spending the money.
I disagree about not buying stuff till after level 40 though. If you play on a real server (PvP) your gear is going to either make or break you, assuming you have skills. At level 45, my new mages Frost Bolts crit for over 800. CoC crits for about 650. Don't tell me that +frost gear isnt helping me. If I crit both my FB and CoC which is very possible, that a fireblast will finisht a rogue or a hunter. Usually, that combo (Nova, Frostbolt, CoC, Fireblast) and a few shots from my green wand will kill instantly.
If I take my frost gear off (like if im AoE soloing) and someone innitates PvP, it takes a lot longer to kill them. The combo mentioned above only brings them down to 25%ish life given the same circumstances. That's like me having to shoot an extra frost bolt and a scorch.
Imp Blizz soloing = 40k xp an hour at 45 ftw!
Edit-
If you have a level 60 char funding your level 1 alt, put fiery weapon on your noob weps. That 40dd proc pre 20 is so leet, it should be nerfed.
My level 1 rogue did 1-20 in about 9 hours. It costed about 200g in mats, but I am an enchanter, and I have about a 3000g bankroll lol
