I was just mucking around w/ my lvl 39 shaman and got owned by a hunter lvl 40. I killed him once and each time came very close to killing him but I couldn't get LB or CL off much b/c of his pet and his attack speed.
So, at lvl 60, how do most Shamans kill hunters their own lvl (strats and talents) and get around the 'delay cast-time' factor

at 60 shamans can most likely just outheal hunters, and if you want to kill hunters just Frostshock them and drop a earthbound totem i think it is.

its all about who sees who first, if the hunter sees you and is able to prepare for the fight, i would say dont even bother, but if your able to getin close before he starts shooting, you can keep him slowed with frost shock and smack him around, hunters will pwn most shamans in ranged because of viper sting, which rapes your mana.

Hunters are very Ranged specific. Keep healing untill you are in his mele range and out of his Dead range. If you can keep him slowed... you can kill him easy. A hunter that traps you and runs to get out of range. Your best bet is to run and try to hide behind somthing that draws him around it so you are right on top of him again.
Hunters are probably the hardest class for shamans besides mages.

your a shammy and got owned by a lvl 40 hunter ? wow.well it depends on how ur spec'ed lol, heres some specs :
(!empty($user->lang['QUOTE'])) ? $user->lang['QUOTE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'QUOTE'))): 1) Solo PVE: 0/30/21
Extremely mana efficient because you can pretty much solo anything you want without having to shock or drop totems. Refreshing Lightning Shield and simply using a 2h weapon with windfury is enough damage to down anything relatively quickly and efficiently.
Some might argue that 23/7/21 is better for this, but since that build requires you to use shocks I imagine you might have a little more downtime (even though you will kill individual mobs faster).
2) Solo PVP: 23/7/21
Great nukes, good utility and nature's swiftness. I could make a case that 0/30/21 is very good against certain classes (paladins) but I think overall the above spec is best against most opponents.
3) Group PVE: 16/3/32
Mana Tide is the absolute best thing we can offer in a high level instance that no one else can offer. Without the tide we become crummy healers with decent totems and the occasional nuke.
This build isn't great for pvp but it's amazing in PVE Raids.
4) Group PVP: 42/9/0
Full elemental, complete with fire nova, call of flame, chain lightning and lightning bolt buffs. Ghost wolf as a throw in. You're basically a mage in chain that can heal.
I think the above 4 are the best overall niche builds. However since Shaman's are all about versatility I don't think the above 4 are the only viable one's. Good hybrid builds like 16/14/21 or 11/19/21 are good too. 31/20/0 or 29/1/21 are also viable.

I've honestly never had trouble with any hunter, but then again maybe they're all retarded on my server...
Being a resto spec shaman, I can usually out-heal their damage if they get far enough away to use their bow... just try to stay in melee range, focus on them and not their pet. Use frost shock and earthbind just for safe measure

Yeah, considering im lvl 39 and he lvl 40, decked with mail armour and a lvl 31 talent... I think I see how I lost, and I killed him once (end score 3-1)
My specc now (lvl 39) is 9/0/20(its up to the +5% lighning crict thing)
My specc at lvl 60: 31/0/20 (Lighning mastery!)
So I'm gonna be way better vs hunters at lvl 60 because my LB and CL where 3 sec casts (w/o the spedding it up talent which I hadnt reached yet) and with lots of +crit% and +damage all I will need to do is get a LC and LB off with a Earthshock b4 and after (Earthshock and Lighnings are Nature damage!)
lol, and if I need heals I specced the avoid interrupting and some other stuff in the restoration tree.

Hunters are plain and simply easy as hell to kill as a shaman and all they do is scatter shot viper sting fegin death and drop frost trap.
Here's what you do drop down a posion totem and some say that a grinding totem will eat up frost traps but i haven't tried it havent need it. here's the spec you need 30/0/21. Create a macro for NS/heal and for NS/LB. heres how you do it. In the beginning he'll use scatter shot and viper sting keep your poison totem down so he doesn't killl all your mana. Have storm reach spec. and your CL should be a 1.5 sec cast. Chase him and frost shock him windfury his !@#$%^&*. If he get's away a little CL him and watch for his trap if you get caught in one immediatly heal when you get out should have the Lesser Heal wave specced where you cna't be interupted 75% of the time. and Chain lightning.....if his pet is a nusance drop earth bind to slow his pet and chase him down and malee him, he'll run away which is perfect for CL. I also have all +damage healing gear so my CL crits for over 1900 finishing move Warstomp stuns them for 2 seconds activate ZHC or TOE Chain lighting macro, NS + LB macro (instant cast) and earth shock (instant cast) that combo hits for over 2800 and if one of those 3 spells crit over 3500 all that in 1.5 sec. and since warstomp stuns for 2 sec nothing he can do about it....

Minimum Hunter Shoot Range: 8 Feet
If u get the jump hit him with a Frost Shock and get within melee range Even if ur elemental specced.
If not do not let him kite you around! GET and STAY within 8 feet of the hunter.
Only try to heal when ur within range, throw a FS on the hunter so he cant run and get out to ranged range.
Best way is just to outlast them, but meleeing them and use your shocks when there up, and throw on a shield if ur getting kited to help reduce dmg.

You see him first - windfury + wolf get close attack and get a frost shock off then just own with biggest 2 hander you got.
Hunter sees you first get out of his line of sight behind a big block etc get into wolf and try to ambush suprise him from behind or just charge and get a frost shock/ heal if needed and start owning.
i always see people trying to run from hunters out in the open just use line of sight to your advantage then the hunter has 2 choices , Circle around and keep his range or attempt melee.
Free action pots are your friend always carry at least 5
