The Geeks of Summer are once again invading your beaches! We're inviting SOE gamers to show everyone that geeks know how to have fun in the sun too!
Based on the number of submissions, we'll separate the entries into categories to determine winners! Don't have artistic skills? Don't worry! If we like your submission enough, we may make a category just for you!
Submissions can be in the form of artwork, screenshots, or modified screenshots and must include at least three of the following items as well as character(s) from your game. It doesn't have to be your character, but can be either NPCs or PCs.

Blizzard Concept Art Updates

Via their Twitter, Blizzard let us know that their concept art gallery has been updated with 15 new pieces of concept art from both the Warcraft and StarCraft universes.

Also while I have your undivided attention,. a quick heads-up that IncGamers: Blues is now up and runnig and is an ideal way to hunt down blue posts and official twitter posts. The site is currently in Beta so please do test the bad boy out, it has some cool features such as email notifcations for Blue post updates in your forums of choice.

Cataclysm Beta: Guild vendor armor, pets, mounts and more

See that dark phoenix pictured above? Want one for your very own? Wondering where to get it? Wonder no more — with the latest patch drop on the Cataclysm beta servers, this mount is listed as a guild reward that you may purchase from the guild reward vendor located in the capital city of your respective faction. On top of the gorgeous dark phoenix, plenty of other amazing items have been added to the vendor. Recipes, pets, a ground mount that is unique to your faction, and for those wondering where we’d get our level 85 heirlooms from, they’re on the vendor as well.

Take a look at the gallery below for a peek at what the guild vendor has to offer. Please note — the heirlooms reflect both level 1 stats as well as stats for my current level, 83. As for prices on the items, don’t get your hopes up — as with everything on the beta, these are subject to change at any time.

StarCraft II July’s Best-Selling Game In US

NPD has revealed that StarCraft II was the best-selling software of July, selling 721,000 copies at US retail.

Rather impressive considering that StarCraft II launched on 27 July, giving it only five days to rack up those figures - and even more impressive when you remember it was a single-system launch on PC.

Last week, Activision revealed that StarCraft II had sold 1.5 million copies in the first 48 hours, making it the biggest PC launch of the year. Perhaps this explains why it slipped down the charts at the start of the week - because everyone’s already got it.

It looks like the official site has more information on pet collection for the 2.0 release, so that everybody knows how to run out and get their very own pet kitters and daggies on the date of the expansion. I am particularly interested in the events mentioned in order to obtain pets.

Two and Four Legged Pets make their way into the Arsenal of Features in the Free Expansion

Pets are no longer restricted to fetching the morning paper and crowd pleasing tricks, as today Aion® redefines how MMORPGs approach pets, creating an entirely new subsystem for players to explore within the upcoming free expansion, Aion: Assault on Balaurea™. For the first time within Aion, players will have access to functional pets capable of storing goods, assisting with crafting, acting as guardians by alerting their masters to nearby enemies, and of course those designed to make their masters look good.

While the pets system will continuously evolve throughout the life of the game, Aion: Assault on Balaurea will launch with five pet types:

o Companion – Adventure with their owner throughout Atreia
o Signal – Alert their owner to the presence of enemy players
o Pack – Expand their owner’s inventory
o Fortune – Produce items for their owner after being well-fed
o Purebred – Provide their owner with multiple functions at once

You’ll have 100 dedicated pet slots available to populate, but can only own one of each type, and are only capable of summoning one pet at a time. You will retain features such as inventory space increase even while the pet providing the feature is put away. The pets you own can be given names, and these names are not unique, which will allow you to choose names freely and make changes whenever you so desire. And as a special treat, a new type of pet emote will trigger unique animations for each type of pet (watch out Westminster Kennel Club, there’s a new set of tricks to teach those old dogs).

There will be different ways to get your hands on these pets, including buying them from in-game merchants or the NCStore, getting them as quest rewards, item drops, or through special promotional events.

Aion: Assault on Balaurea is a free expansion, but there will also be a new boxed version with an upgraded client preloaded available for purchase (MSRP .99). To celebrate the release of Aion: Assault on Balaurea, those who purchase the expansion will receive an adorable Speckled Ailu pet (it’s much like a panda). Some retailers will for a limited time also offer an exclusive Companion pet along with the Speckled Ailu.

Gamasutra Bashes Blizzard Creative Team Storytelling in Starcraft II

Gamasutra writer Tom Cross reviewed the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty single player storytelling. I have read several articles in the past weeks, and I can say this one is the worst one not in terms of quality, but in terms of "trolling' Blizzard's Creative Team.

The article plainly criticizes all the narrative, and in-game cutscenes between missions and throughout the Hyperion's rooms: Cantina, Bridge, Lab, Armory. The Gamasutra article goes on to compare StarCraft II and other RTS games.

Gamasutra: In Starcraft II, players are treated to beautiful, lavish cutscenes in which hardened, whiskey-soaked men debate the finer points of courtship, the differences between criminals and freedom fighters, and the loss of a good woman. It was bad enough when those pretty CG heads discussed pre-mission issues in Starcraft. This time around, every conversation is bookended by musical cues from Firefly and camera pans of pretty glasses of booze. The actor behind Jim Raynor plays it part Malcolm Reynolds, part Marcus Fenix, but the way he’s written and animated (and the way he looks, like some hilariously coiffed Masculine Ideal) betrays his every enunciation.

None of this is in any way surprising, content-wise. This is how Blizzard does, and depressingly, many companies take their cues from Blizzard. What’s surprising, and disheartening, is that there’s so damn much of it, and that a good portion of it is built into the myriad systems appended to the main campaign. Instead of simply offering up a series of missions, Starcraft II lets players take their ease between missions in a number of locations. When not commanding Raynor and Co., players can explore Raynor’s bar hangout (initially), and later his base of operations, the battlecruiser Hyperion.

Peace be with you, readers. Today, we convene once again for a new edition of Captain’s Log, in which we discuss, with mutual respect for all opinions, Star Trek Online. Begging your pardon if you disagree, but I thought it appropriate that we explore one of the game’s brand-new features: diplomacy.

With the advent of Season 2: Ancient Enemies, Treksters and STO fans the world over may breathe a sigh of relief. Cryptic Studios finally introduced a dedicated system for being all peaceable and stuff, like on the teevee. So how does this diplomacy business work, and is it any good? Read on to find out.

Twilight Highlands is one of the new zones of Cataclysm, it is located near the Wetlands and Grim Batol and looks like one of the most interesting zone of the expansion (with Uldum).

Please post below if you have a character that currently appears to be out of phase with the world (i.e. you can still move around from zone to zone, but no NPC’s or objects are visible). Please include the following information:

• Character’s name and server
• The quest and subzone you were on when this occurred
• Whether a crash was involved when this happened.
• The subzone your character is currently in
• If your minimap is not working properly, please note whether it is blank or currently displaying an incorrect subzone.

Additionally, please refrain from moving your character in the next couple of days after you post so we can copy your character’s data and attempt to debug the problem.
