We all know that the first rule of raiding is “Don’t stand in things.” (The second rule is “Don’t tick off the tank unless you want to find yourself fleeing for the entrance at a high speed.”) Across the multiverse, hundreds of overcaffienated raid leaders are clawing at their computer screens, screaming at Hampster of Boulderfist to stop standing in the motherloving fire. Little do they know that Hampster is not about to doom the whole raid, but is instead just relaxing on the flaming torch of a statue in Cataclysm.

Welcome to The Lawbringer, WoW.com’s weekly guide to the intersection between law and the World of Warcraft. I’m Amy Schley, newly graduated law student and your tour guide through the quirky world of copyrights, contracts and crazy lawsuits.
One of the many joys of going to law school is that you know every lawyer joke known to man, and your friends and family feel a need to inform you of the latest crazy lawsuit. While nothing will ever top Mayo v. Satan and His Staff for sheer silliness (by both plaintiff and judge), a new case making the rounds comes close. Someone is suing an MMORPG for being addictive.
That’s right. A Mr. Craig Smallwood, former player of Lineage II, is suing NCsoft for negligently creating an addictive game, for failing to warn him that the game was addictive and for blocking him from the game, causing him to suffer severe withdrawal symptoms that prompted hospitalization and thrice-weekly counseling sessions. More facts and analysis after the break; all information comes from the judge’s recent opinion.

Battles are being lost and won in the eSports world every week. We are here to summarise them, giving you an overview of the recent action. Here is what happened last week!
World of Warcraft
CompLexity.Red, playing mage/warlock/druid, are the winners of this year’s 2010 North American Warcraft Regional Finals. This victory gives them a spot at the BlizzCon 2010 finals, where they will be joined by second place finishers, Arena Pwnage, playing priest/shaman/druid. Check out the official event site for recaps and results.
StarCraft II
The first Intel Extreme Masters, held at gamescom 2010 in Cologne, Germany, came to a close last Sunday.
The tournament generated an insane amount of excitement and produced some amazing games. Thousands of fans cheered for their favourite players, who were fighting for the title and a share of the ,000 prize money. First place went to Swede Stefan “MorroW” Andersson who beat American Greg “IdrA” Fields in the terran versus zerg final. Third place was taken by crowd favourite Dmytry “mTwDIMAGA” Filipchuk, who won a nail-biting third place playoff against Tomasz “Tarson” Boroń from Poland. You can watch all the VODs of this great spectacle over at ESL TV. You can also check the coverage of the event, featuring updates, galleries and many interesting interviews on mymym.com.
In other news, ESL Pro Series Germany, another event organised by Electronic Sports League, started on Tuesday with the first round of matches.
To watch all the replays and see who finished on top check out GosuGamers.
Warcraft III
Philip “Longwalk” Crawford and Abdulaziz “CrunCher” Abed are the two players who qualified for BlizzCon 2010, trumping the very tough field in this year’s 2010 North American Regionals. In the end it was Night Elf player Longwalk, who beat his Human opponent in the final, who took the title. For recaps and replays go to the official event page. |

Greetings all~
In just a few days, on September 7th you’ll be able to invade the Balaur homeland, explore multiple new zones and instances with your own pet companion, and experience the brand new ground Abyss on the live servers! While we wait, I thought it might be funzies to summarise a few circulating snippets of the Ingisson region.
Aion 2.0: Ingisson Zone Tour
Inggison is the new Elyos occupied region within the Balaur homeland of Balaurea. Hidden for so long, it has retained an appearance reminiscent of the Atreian mainland before the Cataclysm struck. However, the Drana in this land has also left its mark, resulting in many areas where the laws of nature are not obeyed.
As with Gelkmaros, the equivalent Asmodian region, Ingisson is also governed by the Dragon Lord Tiamat. The land is said to be both beautiful and deadly to behold so take care Daevas, looks can be deceiving. Be sure to be on your guard at all times in this seemingly tranquil oasis.
Getting Started In Ingisson:
When you reach level 50 you will automatically receive a quest in your log called Lavirinto’s Call. Completing this quest will allow you to obtain the follow up quest called Bound for Ingisson!
Once you’re in Ingisson, after reaching level 51, your first order of business will likely be to get your paws on all the new Skills and Stigmas that are now available. Be sure to check out Aion Armory to work out what you’ll be shopping for ahead of time.
Skill Manuals and Greater Stigmas are available for Daevas level 51 and above in the Cloister of Kaisinel, which you can reach by using the gold teleport statue on the left as you enter Sanctum. Remember though, you can’t unlock your next Greater Stigma Slot until you reach level 52 and complete the quest called Taloc’s Heart Full of Soul.
The second order of business when you arrive in Ingisson will no doubt be asserting control over The Temple of Scales and The Altar of Avarice as fast as you can, else those pesky Asmodians will claim the prize for themselves sooner than you can say “Dude, where’s my pet?”
Where to next?
The good folks over at Aion Powerwiki recently teamed up with PC Gamer to put together some very thorough guides of what to expect from the Ingisson and Gelkmaros regions for newcomers. This initiative has brought us Ingisson levelling guides for level 51 to 52 followed by level 53 to 55.
In summary, the below map gives you a good indication of how your travels will progress:
Eastern & Western Distorted Forest
– Level 51 normal monsters
– Solo play is recommended
Phnoe Valley
– Level 51~52 normal monsters
– Solo play is recommended
Caspa’s Forest
– Level 52 normal monsters
– Solo play is recommended
Shulack Cliff Village
– Level 51~52 elite monsters
– Group play is recommended
Corrupt Underground Fortress
– Level 53~54 elite monsters
– Group play is recommended

- Test your metal in the new level 51~55 Chantra Dredgion.
- At level 52, be sure to speak to Reemul to unlock your new Greater Stigma slot.
- Earn yourself piles of AP doing the Udas Temple instance with your buddies.
Summary To-do List For level 53~55: ( Read More )
- Unlock your last stigma slot by doing the repeatable quests in Beshmundir Temple.
- Get yourself some crazy new Fabled Armor and Items.
- Get yourself an edge with an extendable fabled weapon!
- Seek out fat loot in Beshmudir Temple once you reach level 55.
- Collect Decrees of Valor to get new shexy Fabled items.
- Now that you’re level 55, go back and easy mode farm Taloc’s Hollow solo instance (mwuhaha!)
- If you have the guts, defeat Named Monsters within the Abyssal Splinter.
- The Chantra Dredgion never stops, so keep it comin!
Well there you have it folks, Ingisson in a nutshell. If you’re anything like me and you can’t wait, be sure to get yourself over to the PTS server to take a sneak peek, although you need to reach level 50 in order to see a decent amount of Balaurea…but hey, the 7th isn’t too far away now!
Enjoy!

If you can read this news post, you’re on the new servers!
As mentioned yesterday, we finally started moving the servers to Curse’s infrastructure this week. We’re still moving a lot of stuff and some pages might be down for a little while but … we’re there! It means we can finally start planning funny updates to the site, and, well, a lot of bug fixes. We also have a couple of shiny pictures, thanks to Xtek.
Dual-Specialization Price Reduced
The price of Dual-Specialization has been lowered in a recent beta build, it now costs 100 gold and new players who reach level 40 should be able to afford it without too much problem.
Character Selection Screen – Built-In Theorycraft
In Cataclysm, the character screen will let you check easily how much of stat you need to be capped, calculations for Expertise, Hit Rating, and a few other stats are available. This will probably save you a lot of time when you try to figure out if you really need that extra hit on your shiny new epic.
Build 12804 – Mount Hyjal Update
Mount Hyjal received a very interesting update in the latest beta build. If you visited the zone or looked at screenshots during early beta, you probably remember the huge crater called Archimonde’s Vengeance. Well, this subzone is gone and has been replaced with a greatly improved version! The crater is no longer there but the key NPCs of the questlines are still around.
Concept Arts
The Blizzard Art gallery has been updated with 2 pieces representing the Warcraft universe.

Addon Spotlight focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond — your addons folder will never be the same. This week, Grid gets some pre-made loving thanks to Bati!
Thursday is here! Thursday is here! Excitement abounds in my secret addon lair for many reasons. First, my original vanilla WoW character is back in action. Originally, as many of you have read in my past columns, priest was my class of choice. Healers tend to be my forte because of group desirability — selfishly and selflessly, I always rolled healer to get invited to groups and be there to support the healerless masses back when this was a thing. After a stint in Warhammer Online, tanking became my new love and, after a quick respec and some forum threads, my Burning Crusade healadin became my Wrath tankadin. After almost three years in the freezer, my priest has emerged from cryo-stasis.

The Blitzkrieg achievement requires you to complete the "Media Blitz" mission on Hard dificulty in less than 20 minutes.
You have probably had a heck of a time trying to get this achievement by pumping out lots of units, or you may have realized you need to build a defense at your base, plus offensive units to accompany Tychus Findlay's Odin.
I was among them noobs trying everything I could without success. Sometimes the easiest approach is the best approach.
At the beginning you can only control the Odin. You will have about five minutes to destroy a base of your choice. Instead of destroying a whole base, you should destroy specific buildings to be able to complete this achievement -- and there are some geometry tricks you can do to avoid retaliation en mass.

Buff(ing) for BlizzCon is a bi-weekly fitness series written by ShrinkGeek authors Rafe Brox and Michael McGreevy. Join the WoW.com team in getting in shape for the ultimate WoW geek event: BlizzCon 2010.
There are two words that can seriously take the shine off of anyone’s efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle: “I can’t.” The minute you start saying that, you start stacking up the frustration debuff, which almost invariably leads to some kind of indulgent meltdown that can cause a huge setback or completely derail all the good work you’ve done. We want to feel good about the choices we are making, and most people don’t feel good when they say the words, “I can’t.”
… Unless, you know, they are responding to a question like, “Can you stick this razor-sharp sword into your eye?” That question, fortunately, doesn’t come up much in polite conversation. One that does, however: “Would you like to go out to eat?”
Ah, yes. Our old nemesis, the restaurant. I’ve written in the past about how it’s easier to eat at a restaurant after some advance research to find the good choices on the menu — but what if it’s a spontaneous outing or the restaurant doesn’t have any obviously good choices? What if you don’t know where you’re going before you get there, or the restaurant doesn’t have its menu available online? There are a lot of factors that can make dining out a challenge when you’re trying to watch your caloric intake, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid those situations altogether. There are several tricks you can stash up your sleeve to keep the “I can’t” debuff at bay and enjoy your meal without taking too much damage in the process.

Later in the Greater Faydark quests new players receive their first mount as they infiltrate Crushbone Territory.

Having polished off the 25 most evil and 25 most entertaining achievements from Wrath of the Lich King, it’s time to take a look at what awaits us in the future. Trying to suss out what’s going on with Cataclysm beta achievements right now is a little tough because there are a lot of things that haven’t been implemented yet, but I’m going to answer as many of our most frequently asked questions as I can today.
As on the PTR, characters on the beta copy over without most of their achievement history, and it’s a little weird to see yourself toting around stuff like the Loremaster achievement without actually having its prerequisites. Anyway, keep in mind that this is a snapshot of what we know in beta build 12803, and I don’t believe that Blizzard’s added most of the Cataclysm-related achievements yet.
